Do you let any services know you are on dialysis?
We were told to let the police and fire department know we were on home dialysis in case there was an emergency. We haven't done that yet. Some other thread mentioned letting the electric company know that you were on life support and you could possibly get a lower electric rate. How many are doing that?
Is there anyone else we should let know?
I feel funny letting the police and fire know. I'm afraid they say "Why are you telling us?"

I told my water company I was on home dialysis when i was. The first person I talked to didnt understand, but I said I needed the water for home medical treatments and I got a discount. That was pretty cool because we were on a watering shortage at the time.

you can get a discount from the phone company- because you must be able to call an abulance also- my bill is like 18.00 a month

I haven't heard of getting a discount, but if there is a power outage, then you are put on a list of priority customers. They will work harder to insure that you get service back sooner.

Depends on the power company. Mine doesn't do priority service even for life support. They do give me a discount, though.

Anyone get any discounts in the UK? :ukflag; would be interesting to know ?

I wonder if discounts apply in Canada as well. I also wonder if hubby was told by the pd clinic to contact the police or fire department to let them know. I'll have to ask. Thanks for this info. I learn something new every day.

I had to notify the city which is water and power, as well as the gas company, I did have an incident once when in a different town, my neighboors house was on fire so they were going to unhook the power at my pole. I was on dialysis at the time and my daughter had to run out and let them know. It didn't go off the went further down and unhooked it. I had notified that town so I am not so sure it does any good really.
