Title: I know who I am
Post by: Mimi on January 24, 2008, 12:53:22 PM

Billy Graham is now 86 years old with Parkinson's disease.

In January 2000, leaders i n Charlotte , North Carolina ,
invited their favorite son, Billy Graham, to a luncheon in
his honor.

Billy initially hesitated to accept the invitation because he
struggles with Parkinson's disease. But the Charlotte
leaders said, 'We don't expect a major address. Just
come and let us honor you.'
So he agreed.

After wonderful things were said about him, Dr. Graham
stepped to the rostrum, looked at the crowd, and said,
'I'm reminded today of Albert Einstein, the great physicist who
this month has been honored by Time magazine as the
Man of the Century.  Einstein was once traveling from
Princeton on a train when the conductor came down the
aisle, punching the tickets of every passenger.  When he
came to Einstein, Einstein reached in his vest pocket. He
couldn't find his ticket, so he reached in his trouser pockets. < BR>It wasn't there, so he looked in his briefcase but couldn't find it.
Then he looked in the seat beside him.
He still couldn't find it.

The conductor said, 'Dr. Einstein, I know who you are.
We all know who you are. I'm sure you bought a ticket.
Don't worry about it.'
Einstein nodded appreciatively. The conductor continued
down the aisle punching tickets. As he was ready to
move to the next car ,
he turned around and saw the great physicist down on his hands
and knees looking under his
seat for his ticket.

The conductor rushed back and said, 'Dr. Einstein,
Dr. Einstein, don't worry, I know who you are. No problem.
You don't need a ticket.
I'm sure you bought one.'

Einstein looked at him and said, 'Young man, I too, know who I am.
What I don't know is where I'm going.''

Having said th at Billy Graham continued,
'See the suit I'm wearing? It's a brand new suit.
My wife, my children, and my grandchildren are telling me
I've gotten a little slovenly in
my old age. I used to be a bit more fastidious. So I went
out and bought a new suit for this luncheon and one more occasion.

You know what that occasion is? This is the suit in which
I'll be buried. But when you hear I'm dead, I don't want
you to immediately remember the suit I'm wearing.
I want you to remember this:

I not only know who I am .. I also know where I'm going.'

Sorry LL.

i have no idea why you would apologise to me, mimi.

if you think you know who YOU are, you may have not given it enough thought.

are you your beliefs? your occupation?
your pain?

if you think hard and honestly, you will realise that
you are none of these.

if you think you know who i am, you are definitely confused.

but i forgive you, and i don't have to believe in jesus to do that, either.

love

LL

The post was not about you and I, LL, it was about Billy Graham.  I apogized because I know you do not
care for religious posts.

f you think you know who i am, you are definitely confused.

You are right, I absolutely do NOT know who you are.  I have never even looked on your face.  But
I DO know who I am.  I am a child of God and I intend to remain one.

Joy to the world!

See, LL that's where thinking gets you.  Why don't you try something else for awhile?
Sarcasm can take you farther than you meant to go.

Still love U LL

Mimi, there is a song "I know who I am and I know where I'm going".  I like the thought that I know where I'm going!   And by the way, I, also, am a child of God. I am not brainwashed, not a sheep following the crowd---I just know what works for me.

i feel the same way, paris, except for the 'child of god' schtick.
all i want is what everyone wants; to be able to walk my path without being judged.
and when somebody says they want to 'bring out' or 'show the good in you' -
they have judged you.
and not too kindly, i might add. ...

i liked the stories too, but the truth is that many of the anecdotes about einstein that have circulated over the past few years on the 'net are pure lies.
people use his name to validate their arguments, i mean, who could argue with a 'genius'?

LL, I won't judge you or call you names and I will expect the same in return.   I search for peace in my life amidst all the chaos that ESRD brings to us.  Seems like I don't have the energy to do much else but keep my mind in a good spot.  So, I respect your views---they work for you.  Mine work for me---no right, no wrong.  I am glad there are so many different opinions; it makes life much more fun!    Remember the old Coke commercial?  I want to buy the world a Coke?  All types of people, holding hands on a mountain top singing together.  For some reason, that's how I picture the IHD family!  All different, but joined with a common bond.  Only, I am a Pepsi fan, so maybe my vision is all wrong!! :rofl; :rofl;   Glad your back posting often-- we all love good debates. :clap;

That would explain a lot!  :rofl; Sorry, I've lived in the birthplaces of both Coke and Pepsi, and I must say, I love Coke!

I like rasberry gingerale and rootbeer.

Imagine lining all of the different pops up in clear glass bottles ontop of the mountain.  The sun is shining and every bottle is sparkling.  Together, they create the most beautiful colours that sparkle into the air.

Now I'm thirsty.

no need to apologise. let's celebrate our diversity and the ability to get along, regardless.
we've all got one thing in common, for sure.

besides, i'm sure you know that it's been shown how the syrup that's used to make coke is also very useful for cleaning the rust off of truck engines, so you must have a clean engine, anyway.

I know who I am also - a child of God - and nothing anyone could say
to me could change my thinking, He is so real to me and has done so much for
me.  It is not about religion or organization but a relationship.  But I do respect
others beliefs and would not want to debate anyone or  be critical of their
way of thinking.

I think we should take this thread back to original topic about Billy Graham's story.  If you want to argue about if there is a God we have a thread for that argument.
