Does your hemo treatment make you very hungry? I am also very sleepy that afternooon and evening after my treatments. Is this how it affects everyone?

Yep, I get very hungry too. It is a empty feeling that I cant recall, like a different kind of hungry. Its probably normal, but after not being hungry for a long time, I just don't recognize it :rofl;

I always starving after and I'd leave the clinic with a burst of energy. :bandance; When I would start eating though, I'd get tired and full really quickly and would pretty much be wiped out for the rest of the day.

I always have to need to eat when I finish. I especially feel I have to have some meat. On Fridays, I pass by a tent where the sell soups, etc. I always buy a 'bullfoot soup'. Back home we call the same thing 'cowheel soup'. I love it. Nice and gelatinous.

Day of treatment I get up at 6:30, eat at 7Am then get ready, leave at 9am, have treatment about 9:45 until whenever I'm done and get home about 2:30 or so. I usually eat something and I am hungry after trearment. Then I hang out a while, eat dinner then lie down until about 8, have a small snack then I'm done for the night until sleep which is about 11pm. Yeah I am hungry after treatment! I crave protein for some reason.

Back before my last two transplants my on time was 5:30am. I would get rinsed back around 8:30am. I have insomnia really bad so unless I'm sick I don't get to sleep until 1-4am. I slept on dialysis back then. I didn't have my license yet so I'd wait for the cab and wouldn't get home until around 10am. I'd have a snack then lie down and sleep all day long! On non dialysis days I'd sleep till abt 11am and get up fix lunch and be fine.
Now, I go from 12:15-3:15pm. I drive myself so I am able to leave right away. How hungry I am afterward depends on whether or not I've eaten anything before or during treatment. I do my treatments on M-W-F so come Sunday my appetite sucks! So, after Monday's treatment I am usually starving when I get home but never feel like cooking. So, hubby either brings something home, usually fast food, or makes dinner when he gets home an hour later. I don't usually sleep on dialysis anymore and I don't lie down when I get home. I still have insomnia but going in the middle of the day works for me.

When Marvin was on in-center hemo, he was on first shift (be there at 6 a.m.). He didn't eat before tx, but ran for five hours and was always STARVED when he got off. We only live 10 minutes from his clinic, but I'd still pack him a lunch box (drink, pack of crackers, sometimes a sandwich). Even with his lunch box, he would still sometimes run through the drive-through at McDonald's for chicken nuggets. Now that he's on home hemo, he's not as hungry after treatment -- probably because he can snack now while he's running -- never much, just a bag of popcorn, a pack of crackers, etc.
On in-center, Marvin slept during treatments most days. He wasn't sleepy when he got home, just totally wiped out for the rest of the day! Now that he's on home hemo, he rarely sleeps during treatments and when he gets off the machine, he has lots of energy!

I was starving both on and once i got off dialysis.... I use to eat like a horse.. ;) and i was sleepy most of the time after dialysis but i would try not to nap until bed time.

My famous words to my husband after a run at dialysis are always "I could eat!" I am craving protein after dialysis and usually eat pretty hearty after a run!

When I first started I was always STARVING! I would want protein, then after I would eat I was useless. I would crawl in bed and do nothing the rest of the evening (my shift was from 2pm - 6pm).
