Hi,
My husband has been on dialysis for about 1 1/2 years. We had a wonderful non-profit center. Caring people, good care and concerned doctors. We decided to move nearer my daughter since we are both in our 70s and she needs help with her severely handicaped child. We found a condo which we are very happy with and thought everything was going great. Well! All the dialysis centers were full and our social worker had to place my husband in one in the next county. (about the same distance as the other ones which were in our county)
The center probably had room since no one wanted to go there. First they almost ruined his fistula, the doctors didn't seem interested in him. We were just a number. They didn't even come round with the charts. They would come and ask you what medicines you are taking and what dose and then get mad if you didn't know them. (He on at least a dozen) They wouldn't take labs except once a month.(protocol) I had to scream and call everyone to get them to take a hemoglobin reading. They knew he had to have 4 units of blood in one week in the past. When they finally took the reading he was 8.1. The available transportation they said was available turned out to be $80 each way since it crossed county lines. While trying to find another center and a solution a social worker mentioned home hemodialysis. We are so happy with this solution. No more driving in a snow storm or an hour 6 times a week. (1 hour each way) We now have a good caring doctor and a very helpful nurse.
This site has been so helpful. I'm so glad to be a part of it.

Roadrunner, I am so glad you found us, you're going to enjoy it here!
That is just terrible what your husband had to go through. They need to clear out the
staff from top to bottom and start all over with dedicated TRAINED professionals.
Makes me angry to know people are being treated so poorly, for no valid reason.
