I just had a temporary catheter put in, and I am wondering how I shave without
getting water on the catheter. The catheter takes up half my neck. I am already
starting to get itchy on my beard. I've heard of using saran wrap or large bandages
to protect the catheter during showering, but I can't do that while shaving. Help!

I'd tell you if I knew.........I haven't shaved since starting dialysis over a year ago.

When I had mine, I went electric.

Steve, I have 2 norelco electrics I would be happy to send you one. Let me know...Boxman

Thanks for the offer Boxman, but I think I'll muddle through. The surgeon will probably
be moving the catheter down to sub-clavial when he works on the fistula. I think I
will try to shave without washing first, just use shaving cream and keep the bandages covered.
If this goes on into next week my barber said he would shampoo and shave me. Although
I should probably ask him when was the last time he shaved anyone. Shaving is a lost art.
The only time in my life a barber shaved me was the best shave I ever had.

Ok I am female but I still have to wash my face and hair so I get the best water proof tape and tape plastic wrap over my cathetar to keep it dry. Works for me but my cath is just a little above the armpit on my chest(sort of makes wearing a bra impossible, but that is ok with me!)

The surgeon will move the catheter down from my neck to the upper chest area tomorrow.
Then I think I will try the two part plastic covering that tapes to your chest and the
catheter is covered. This neck catheter is the most annoying device ever. It's constantly
rubbing on my upper neck and jaw.
