Title: Linda alias Angel - New Member Introduction
Post by: Angel on January 09, 2008, 11:08:19 AM: Hello -- I'd like to introduce myself -- I live in Canada and have been on Hemo Dialysis since February 2007 prior to that date I had a Kidney transplant that lasted 26 years. I also did Dialysis 26 years ago before my transplant. So, I have been exposed to all aspect of Dialysis, transplants problems, etc. I am now back on the Transplant list and I am also hopeful that the hopsital will determine that my husband and I are compatible as he wants to give me his kidney.

I recently started a Dialysis Newletter in my Dialysis centre. The newsletter has become quite popular with the patients and other Dialysis centers may want to consider a newsletter for their own Dialysis unit. Everyone is invited to write to me to find out the particulars of setting up a newsletter in your center.

I know the center where my husband went tried the newsletter and it didn't last long. Lots of elderly patients and they just didn't seem interested. I also felt that it was written on a child's level and I didn't appreciate that much. Good luck with it and you have found the perfect site. I'm sure that you will have many inputs and we'll ask you questions too. WELCOME.

I would love to see what it is like. I don't think a newsletter would be very feasible for my particular unit. We have less than 30 patients and some are older people who are not very interested in those things.

Hope the newsletter goes well. My Dad's unit has one (UK) and although he never seems very interested in it on the day he gets it, as he's usually finished his hemo and feeling tired, he does appreciate it when he has chance to read it over the weekend. I think it helps him feel part of things and gives him lots of information about others in the same situation, reduces the isolation. So thank you to people like you who produce them.

Welcome to IHD. It must be tough to go back to dialysis after so many years with a working transplant. I'll bet you've see a lot of changes in the transplant field since then. Best of luck to you and your hubby.
