Title: How long do you take to stop bleeding (clot) after dialysis? With POLL!!!
Post by: Epoman on June 09, 2006, 02:18:42 PM
Well how long? I mean from the time they pull the needles. Personally I am very lucky I stop bleeding in under a minute.  :o seriously. I have the poll locked until you vote, that means you can view the reults until you vote.  >:D

Trickster! ;)
One minute??????   How I wish!  Twice this week, after holding for what seemed like hours (a few minutes, really), when I peeked, my blood spurted over the place!!

I hold for 10 minutes to be on the safe side, I just hate to get to the scale and find blood running down my arm.

I  used to be able to hold for a few minutes five, then go.  Now though I am up the twenty to thirty minutes.  The graft is getting older and I think it needs more time to clot. So I sit for a while. Bleeding all over the place usually gets me yelled at. ;D

When I am nearly forced to use a needle it is under a minute. My Hb is so high I clot very quick, so quick sometimes I clot off on the machine if the nurse does not get the fragmin in quick enough.

They must be some slow nurses kevno  :o What is your Hb?
I push the heparin in just as the blood runs past the heparin line. Havent had any troubles with it. Only time I clotted the lines was when I had a permacath.

This month 14.8. The Nurses are starting to give me a flush half way through dialysis. Not been on Epo since March 2005. Even then it was 10units once a month.

Geez kevno, I cant even get mine past 120 and im on a big dose of aranesp.

bajanne2000, that is normal, it does happen sometimes so dont worry. When you check, just lift the gauze very slightly, enough to be able too see the site, then if any blood comes out quickly re-apply pressure. Take note of the time you checked it. If still bleeding, then you know to keep holding it after this time. After a while you will have it down pat.

It took my father an hour and a half today to stop bleeding. It's mostly because his arm is so swollen -- it even weeps water all the time now. They balloon'd it two weeks ago but it's still just as bad as ever.

Takes me about 5 min but a couple days every month around the same time my blood seems thinner and I have to lower my heparin for some reason.

Under 5 minutes, though I give it a few more.

Since I established buttonhole sites the wait has been considerably less.

But once I was at a diffrent Dialysis Center because of work. First I got on it at 7 at night got off at 12 and the they made me press 1 h per hole. so I got to the hotel at 3 in the morning and had to get up at 6.

Man I'm glad I don't have to go there anymore

I'm on the Permacath still, but when I was using my fistula it took 10 minutes.  Well, I held it 10 minutes because there is NO way I want to see blood shooting out my arm.   :P

I started bleeding again when I was about to go home so they gave me a "at home kit" so I can re-bandage my arm myself. I also just got upon request (a fellow patient makes them) bands for my arms so I don't have to have my arm taped for home. These are 2 black bands with Velcro on them to put around your arm on the bandage.
