Title: Hello from a Clinical Manager
Post by: goofy1 on December 11, 2007, 08:06:58 PM
I don't quite know how to start this.  I have devoted over 20 yrs to taking care of dialysis patients, first as a tech, then an RN, and now a Clinical Manager.  I would like to ask you to help me take better care of you.  The job can be very stressful, and yet, one of the most gratifying things a person can do.
We deal daily with people who do not feel well and take it out on us.  We rush to beat the clock during turn-over.  We handle life-threatening emergencies as we provide a life-saving treatment to our patients, many of whom have very complicated medical problems.  In spite of all of this, we, the staff, are truly blessed to be given the opportunity to serve such a special population.  We leave an indelible mark on our patients hearts, as they do ours.
I look forward to getting to know you better.

Hello Goofy1 and welcome to the IHD community.  I like a dialysis worker that treats me like I have half a brain!  It is so insulting when they try and tell me how I should feel or what I should or should not drink.  I know it is hard when some patients don't want to help themselves, but we are not all like that.

Thanks for trying to understand.

Welcome to our community!  Thank you for caring enough to want to join a forum like this. Since our inception, we have had persons from every spectrum of connection to the renal challenge, but I think you are the first as a Clinical Manager.  We feel that interaction by all connected will only make for a better experience for all.  Feel free to post.  Sometimes you will be just the person to answer a question asked by one of us.  We even have a section for people who work in the area so they can vent freely when they need to!
We know that we patients are not always perfect angels (except for me!), so it is good to hear it from your side as well.
One of the strong points of this site is that we have become a family - caring, supporting, loving, sharing.   So take advantage of all it has to offer.  Here is a group hug from all of us.  :grouphug;

Welcome goofy1 to ihatedialysis.com.

Thank you for all you do in your plight to be the best in what you do. Non-compliance issues I think are caused by depression in most cases. Dialysis patients have to live a grueling diet that I quite frankly don't know how they do it. I'm not on dialysis so I can't really speak for those who are but I do understand the frustrations that they endure. Having someone in your capacity to really understand, makes a world of difference.

Welcome!
I think we all understand that yours can be a difficult job with the challenges of illness, personalities, machinery, corporate overlords, etc. Please know we appreciate that you chose this field and we do respect your knowledge and dedication.

Also know that those of us on dialysis are stuck in a lousy situation so we're not always as cheery as we could be. Oftentimes we feel lousy...or sad...or angry...it's a bizarre ride we're on and your patience and professionalism are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for finding us and contibuting your thoughts and experiences to our lttle world.
