Evelyn Hall-Rice thought she was in pretty good health, until she found out last year, her kidneys were failing. She had to go on dialysis, and doctors at the Cleveland Clinic then told her she had to get a kidney transplant.
Finding a donor that matched, would not be easy.
As it turns out, her 26 year old son Joe Rice is a match.
"It seems like somebody had a plan for this, because it's just phenomenal to me. It's just unreal," Hall-Rice said.
"She definitely made sure I got everything I needed, so I feel good cause I can return the favor," Rice said.
"I adopted Joey when he was three months old," Hall-Rice said.
Joe admits he has always been afraid of needles, but he didn't hesitate to agree to the donation.
" It's just something I think is important, so at the end of the day, it overrides any kind of fear I have of it," he said.
The transplant is slated for Monday morning at the Cleveland Clinic.
"Organ donation is important. African-Americans don't donate the way we should. People need to get over the fear and realize they can help," Rice-Hall said.  "It's a miracle. It's a blessing."
