Title: New Years Resoultions
Post by: okarol on December 08, 2007, 12:49:55 PM
What are your New Year's goals?
New Years resoultions: Do you make them? Do you break them? Care to share them?
While a lot of people who make New Years resolutions do break them, it has been claimed that making resolutions is useful.

I tried making some resolutions many years ago, but the pressure was so much I had to break them just so I could relax. Perhaps my goals were a little unrealistic. Trying to quit smoking, lose weight, increase exercise, be nicer to my hubby, go to more alanon meetings, get to work on time ... ARRRGH! Stop the insanity!! What was I thinking??

I managed most of last year's goals - lose weight, and get on home dialysis being the top two.  This year, I'm still on the lose weight one, of course.  I also want to get serious about doing more quilting and sculpting.  I can sell what I make, so I need to quit lazing around reading when I could be making more money.  I also need to make a couple of practical resolutions like "see a dentist more often," and "accept that I cannot change my family."

Well, my first resolution was to clean and organize my house, which I did already because I wrecked my car and it was in the shop for over a week...so, that was done.  My next resolution is to lose a little more weight between now and February.  And the next one is to get pregnant again.  Since I am not able to be my mom's donor, my hubby and I are trying to have a sibling for our son.  We have to do it the high tech way, though (In Vitro) and I start my shots in about 3 weeks.....then I'll do shots for a month, have surgery, and wait....lol....

You can do this oswald. I smoked for over 35 years 2 packs a day in the later years. Quit cold turkey on 8/14/06 have not had one since even though while typing this I still want one. When I think about it is when the urge comes over me. Don't think about it...Boxman

No resolutions for me.  At my age I can't think of one thing I want to start doing or one thing I want to quit doing.
That's the beauty of old age, you become satisfied with everything.  Duh-what am I? nuts or something. :urcrazy;
:bestwishes; to all of you younguns!

Chin ups, bill?  Is that okay with an access in your arm?  Mine hurts like mad if I lift too much, let alone all of me!

This came up while talking with a friend about my resolution. I believe it to be an urban legend situation. I know body builders with arm accesses - I've been doing weight training (off and on) for years. Here is what I think has happened. The recommendation is to not carry a purse or shopping bag over the access arm/shoulder (or for that matter have an elastic cuff) anything that might occlude the fistula/graph. Then like a game of telephone this turned into don't carry anything with the access arm. Everyone is different but for me if I couldn't lift with my access arm I couldn't have worked out of the union these past 12 years

I love making resolutions. I don't see why people don't.. as they say, it is good for you. Even if you don't accomplish them. But yah, my resolutions for this year are:

Start to eat healthier
Do some exercise and work up to what I can do more and more
Get my tickets paid off and get my lisence back
Get a car
Get a job
Continue to be the best mom I can and give my attention to my children.
Put in some relaxation time for myself everyday.

That's some of them.  8)

Apart from all my usual resolutions (some kept, some broken) like studying the Word every day, getting organized, etc., my big resolution that I resolve to keep is TAKING MY MEDICATION!!  I was doing well, but something went wrong.
I am very thankful for New Year's Day.  it is always a time for me to start fresh.   I also have a birthday coming up, so if anything didn't get done, I have another chance for a fresh start!
But I need to take my Binders, Lipitor, Allopurinol and Aspirin.
Guys, please help me to remember!

Something I heard somewhere, but I don't recall where....

"You don't need to wait for New Year's Day to start fresh. Each day is a new day, and your opportunity to start over and go on a new path and do the things you want to do. Why wait for New Year's Day when you can start today?"

It's funny I post that on New Year's Day, but oh well.  8)
