Title: Swelling post transplant
Post by: vandie on December 01, 2007, 07:48:00 PM
I have had swelling in my feet and legs for about 2 weeks, very minor at first.  On Wednesday and Thursday my feet were so swollen it looked like I was trying to shove my size nines in a a size four.  My weight has gone up about 9 pounds in 3 weeks.
I had an appointment with my neph on Thursday to go over my last labs.  All counts are good.  Creat is at 1.2 and other than the tiredness from anemia, the swelling was my main concern.  My doctor told me that I drink too much. . . WTF?  All I have been told was to drink, drink, drink.  I am so careful about my intake.  I drink at least 2 liters of water a day, sometimes more.  He told me I only need 1.5 liters a day and that is why I am swollen.
Help a sister out.

xoxo

not sure Vandie, my docs also said to drink, drink, drink, so probably drink 2-2.5 litres a day.

Hope you find out an answer soon

Not sure if your neph is with the transplant center, if not, call your transplant center and tell them what is going on. Drinking 2 liters as the cause of the problem seems fishey to me, so another opinion is in order. I was also told to drink 2 liters or more a day. So go get checked out ASAP.

Vandie, I hope they get they find out why this is happening, i know the feeling and it sucks big time, (and hurts too) Hopefully they give you some water pills to help remove some of that excess water and everything turns out fine,  love ya  :cuddle;

Sounds odd to me - seems like they want to drown Jenna in water.  Just for the hell of it you could measure your fluid intake and output.
My sister takes water pills, but I am not sure why. I hope you get some relief soon Vandie girl!  :cuddle;

Hi Vandie, I am puzzled too about him saying you drink too much. I was told two to three liters. Hope you feel better soon. When I had some swelling they told me to walk. I was walking two to three miles a day, so I don't know how much more I walking they thought I should do.

My last transplant was five years ago, but I was told to drink at least 100 ounces (I think that's around a liter and a half) of water a day. I too, would recommend calling the transplant team if your neph isn't part of it.

Vandie,

Have you tried cutting back a little on your water intake? I say this because my husbands transplant was 12 weeks ago and they told him 1.5 liters of water was enough along with his drinks (milk, orange juice, soda, and beer). Yes, he had his first little pony beer during the football games this afternoon. He didn't drink all of it but said it really tasted good. Our transplant coordinator told us that the water drinking is really based on your size. My husband is a little shit. We keep track of his input and output even though doctor said we don't need to do that anymore. It's just peace of mind for me. Len usually has urine output close to fluid input. Hope this helps some.

Please keep us updated.  :cuddle;
