Title: High BP
Post by: Lori1851 on November 24, 2007, 05:20:17 PM
Hi Friends,
Seems that when my son has his dialysis his BP has shot way up. He is now on FOUR BP meds!!! Clonidine brings it down during Hemo but then it seems he may get a migraine from it.
Any of you have issues with your BP shooting up?

I have the problem with high bloodpressure after dialysis. My neph calls it the rennin response when my kidneys become dried out they produce rennin to boost blood pressure. This always seems to happen after dialysis. On non dialysis days my bp is around 120/75, but during dialysis it can be as high as 150/100 though usually it only gets into the high 130's or low 140's over 95ish.

my bp  goes  the  other  way,in  a  southerly  direction,gonna  play  around  with  the  ibw,  see  if  it  comes  back  up  a  bit.
on  dialysis  usually  starts  out  good  if  not  a  bit  high,couple  of  hours  in  it  dive  bombs,nurses  just  ask  how  i  feel,  if  i  say  good  they  continue  on  their  way.
last  fri  bp  was  taken  4  times  in  5  minutes  cause  the  reading  was  85/55,when  i  unhook  it  comes  back  to  fair,105/65. :thumbup;

Lori1851,

Clonidine will give your son terrible headaches. My husbands would start out high and then drop toward the end. We would turn off the UF for about 10 minutes and it would come back up. Also, his blood pressure might be high if they are drying him out too much. Has he gained weight or does he still urinate? I'd ask the nurse at clinic. Then again, they will probably say he isn't dry enough. Sometimes you just have to just try a couple of things to get it back to where it belongs. Good luck and keep us posted.

My BP has been a real guessing game...it was WAY high for awhile, so we upped the meds...then in tanked and we slowly backed off the increase, but it was still low, so I went off them altogether and now it's perfect!

It's a constant game of tweaking, experimenting, but being very cautious every step.
