I Hate Dialysis Message Board

I found this site while doing research for a paper I am writting in my BSN program. I am an RN, recent graduate and working in a dialysis clinic in Snohomish county WA, USA. The reason this site attracted me to become a member (first time I've ever joined any web based message board), is because of the supportive community that I have seen in reading some of the postings; especially the support for people who are just starting dialysis from those who have experience. This is a great community resource.
Several of you have much more experience at dialysis than I do. Nursing school has taught me many things, lab values, therapeutic communication, pathophysiology, treatment modalities, HIPPA, etc... but it cannot teach me what is like to sit in the chair. I'm looking to this community of patients to listen and learn from you; to make myself into a better nurse; and ultimately to provide for my patients the best dialysis experience possible. Hopefully I will be able to reciprocate by providing professional insights and opinions from the nurse's point of view that other members will find useful.
Some demographics: I'm male, early 30's, single but engaged (to a Canadian), I enjoy juggling, flying kites, and I keep two Australian Bearded Dragons as pets. I have 3 months experience on the unit and I'm continuing my education through the University of Washington.
Glad to meet you all, and I look forward to getting to know you.

:waving; Hi Random,
I am glad you found IHD and hope you meet lots of nice people here. It's great to see someone explore the human side of dialysis because it's so important to be in touch with people rather than just treat patients.
Welcome!

Welcome to our commmunity! So glad that you decided to join us. I do appreciate it when people who work with this challenge take the time out to find out how it is from the patient's perspective. You will find that this site has really become a genuine family and we welcome anyone who wants to be part of us. Feel free to post, ask questions, answer some. When you want to vent concerning your job (or your patients!) there is a section for you to do that - Dialysis: Employees. The vision of the founder of this site, Epoman, was that a place would be created where anyone could come and contribute without fear of censorship (except for vulgarity, of course). Looking forward to hearing from you. :grouphug;

PS - What on earth is an Australian Bearded Dragon? :pics;

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
As for Bearded Dragons, I wish I could attach pictures, but unfortunately dial-up makes that prospect rather difficult and time consuming. Spike and Rosie are lizards about as long as your fore-arm, not including the tail, and they are brownish tan with striped patterning and spikes around their head and down their sides. They are very friendly (all bearded dragons that I have met are) and they like eating crickets and vegetables.
Gotta run, my fiancee is down from Canada today and breakfast is ready. I will be back to delve into the extensive discussion thread later.
All the best :thx;

Australian Bearded Dragons make great pets! I used to work with them when I was a vet assistant for an exotic vet.

Ugh. I'm sure they are good pets, I just am a bit squeamish when it comes to reptiles. Especially snakes. Ugh.
-
They look something like iguanas. We have lots of them in the Virgin Islands (more in the U S Virgin Islands where they are protected). Not exactly my kind of pet. Sometimes I am in St. Thomas (USVI) and I look up into a tree, and there is a big one. Then I keep seeing more and more of them. Like MyssAnne, I confess to being squeamish.
