As of November 2, 2007 I have been on hemodialysis for NINE years. Holy Smokes! I was on vacation for this anniversary. What a way to celebrate in Palm Springs! The tech I had in the center said her hubby had been on dialysis for 26 years. I was outdone! Oh well!
Happy Hemo Anniversary to me!

Good job Kit. Its been a long and disappointing 9 years in many ways. Glad to hear you've marked another milestone. Lets hope they start listening to you in the next year and that things get much better.

Hemoversary
That may be my new favorite word! (after Dialyzor that is!)
OK - You are all about to see what a geek I am...
I did the math.... 9 years at 3x a week averaging 96 liters per run - You've processed over 13,4784 liters of blood! ummm I could go on - figuring chair time - but that would be over kill!!!
-

Joining others in wishing you a happy hemoversary. Its been a struggle for you no doubt, but good job in sticking around :thumbup;

You certainly are a strong woman. You have had a lot to deal with during those years, but you are a great example of someone "LIVING" on dialysis. You teach, you travel, you're a Mom--I could go on and on. You do inspire all of us. We know we can do it because you are showing us how!! And I love the word hemoversary!
-
:beer1; Happy Anniversary- you certainly are an inspiration for those just starting out and not knowing what the future may bring.
thanks for sharing the anniversary with everyone.
Have fun on vacation.

I mark my anniversaries, too. On March 30, 2008, I will CELEBRATE my 13th year anniversary on dialysis. (Although I did have a "break" in the middle from 2000-2003 when my wife gave me one of her kidneys.) We've been counting, and, as of today, I've had 1,575 dialysis treatments. I have a goal -- If I don't get another transplant, I plan to be the man who survives the longest on dialysis. Since I started when I was 39, and if a transplant doesn't come around for me again, I'd like to be on dialysis for 61 years -- that would make me live until I'm 100. Anyone care to compete with me? :yahoo;

Jenna had 485 treatments in just over 3 years (3 times a week at in center hemo.)

Good for you Marvin, i hope you make your goal my friend :2thumbsup; As for me, my "hemoversary" came and went just like any other day, i think everyday is an anniversary to me, that means the Lord has given me another day and for that, i celebrate :yahoo;

;musicalnote; Stayin' alive, staying alive....oh, oh, ooooooh - stayin' alive! ;musicalnote;

In Canada the average waiting time for a renal transplant is 8 years. Since that's the average, think of how many are on dialysis way longer than that, given the Bell curve distribution.

Let's hear it for State-run health care. 100% coverage, 60% quality.

And many more!!! :clap;
Yay!

It's not state-run healthcare in Canada that makes the waiting list for a transplant so long, it's the fact that of all the world's industrialized countries, Canadians are the most ungenerous in donating their organs! Why this is the case is a mystery, since the country's official ideology is forever patting itself on the back about how much more humane Canadians are than Americans, but in this respect, they are selfish. As I reported elsewhere, I conducted a survey of all the dialysis nurses I had during all my nine years on dialysis in Canada, and when I asked whether the nurse had signed her organ donor card, the reply I almost invariably received was, "I never thought of it." ?!
-
that is just simply amazing. i never thought about asking the nursing staff if they were donors. i wonder how many nurses or docs in dialysis units are potential donors. just a thought. :twocents;

:bandance; Happy Heomversary
