Title: PD and Cruising
Post by: Joanniebop on November 07, 2007, 06:16:05 AM
Hi Everyone,

Well the time is near and Chuck and I hopefully will be taking our first cruise since he has been on PD, next week.

I posted this question on a disabled cruise forum, but then I thought who would know better than you guys.

So here goes...
I ordered an IV pole that attaches to his wheelchair but I will not receive it in time.  I also ordered an IV pole that we did use for practice at home.
I think that I can breakdown the pole and the feet are detachable and take it with us or do you think that we should just try and use over the door hooks? It seems like the doors in a cabin are especially thick.

I am taking with me...gloves, masks, organizer, caps, anything that I need to change his cath site, lysol wipes for the area used, trash bags for disposal of the bags and tubing.

I have orderd his solution supplies from Fresinius  ( they should deliver right to our cabin) and will call the day before just to double check.

What am I forgetting?

I say that hopefully we will cruise next week because his nurse called yesterday to say the his hemoglobin count was extremely low and that maybe we won't be able to go. But the way she said it was like she had the authority to make that decision :( whether or not we take this cruise. WHAT? WHAT?
We go to the clinic today and I don't know what to expect from the Dr.
We just started on procrit 2 weeks ago and I am sure that his numbers will come up especially if they increase his dosage which I am sure that they will do today.
It really is not their fault that he just started the procrit. They have been telling us to use it for some time, but Chucks' blood pressure has been so eratic that we have been a little reluctant to use the procrit. But as I said we have started the shots  a few weeks ago and even gave him a shot yesterday even though he just had one on Thursday.

Thanks for all your help and advice.

Joannie
