Title: Great News!
Post by: lcamanini on November 04, 2007, 08:06:10 AM
I went to Mayo Clinic about two weeks ago to have a workup to see if I can have a transplant. My nephrologist has told me over and over that because of what I have, a transplant is basically out of the question. Because of this I wasn't expecting anything good to come of this workup. Well, on my first day there they told me that I would be an excellent candidate as long as all my tests came out good. I was officially approved on Halloween. Now the hard part is finding a kidney. The only person in my immediate family that could possibly be a match refuses to even get tested even though he offered me a kidney when we thought I couldn't have one. Anyway, I've already found at least one person that's willing to give me one, so we'll see. I'm just so excited about this news after looking at a future of nonstop dialysis.

Isn't that about the best thing you've heard in eons?  I'm very happy for you especially because you thought you couldn't have a transplant.  You'll get one and it will turn your life around.  Congratulations on the wonderful news.  We'll be adding your name to the list of IHD transplant recipients one of these days!  :thumbup;

Goes to show you, don't listen to doctors who do not do those type of procedures. They are not specialized in that field. Glad you didn't listen to your nephrologist and went to the transplant center. Congratulations on getting approved

Great news for a lovely lady! :) It's great you didn't listen to those docs and went in yourself for testing! How wonderful.

I am sorry that family member decided to offer only when he felt there was no chance of it happening... and now won't get tested.. sheesh! That's like the worst sort of tease in my book :( Still, I hope you find someone soon and can get a transplant!!! Join the long list of IHDers who have been lucky this very year alone!! :)
