Bremen, Germany - Werder Bremen forward Ivan Klasnic played his first match since a kidney transplant on Thursday night, scoring twice in a match of the club's third division amateur side. "I was happy to play again. I had been waiting for this a long time. It went well despite the difficult pitch conditions," Klasnic told Werder TV.
The Croatian Klasnic, 26, played the first half in the team's 9-0 win over lower league club SF Wuesting-Altmoorhausen. It was his first match in 10 months as Klasnic underwent the kidney transplant early in the year.
Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf and sports director Klaus Allofs attended the game but said that there was no date yet for Klasnic's return to Bundesliga football.
"Ivan played well and scored a wonderful goal. But we will not put pressure on him," said Allofs.
