Title: I got a package from the transplant center!
Post by: paddbear0000 on October 25, 2007, 02:34:07 PM
 :bandance; :bandance; :bandance; Ya hoo!! I got a big ass package from the Ohio State University Transplant Center today!! It's weird tho, there are forms in there that need to be filled out by a dentist, a gynecologist and a cardiologist BEFORE I even get to go talk to them! I thought I'd at least get to go visit them before all that! Any advice?   :yahoo;

Yes I also got all kind of forms for different tests also but I did get to at least get to go in for a talk before hand. They explained the ups and downs of a transplant,I meet the social worker and surgeon and now musst get  the tests done before I proceed to get on the list. I guess different transplant centers do it gifferent ways.

Congrats!  Just get the forms out to the people they go to and start thinking positively.  I'm sure you'll breeze right through the evaluation and workup process.  Soon you'll be posting your experiences here in the transplant thread.

Good luck!

I take it that they didn't  have a transplant seminar were they give information about their transplant plant program were you could ask questions?
Anyways, congradulations.

If any of the forms are multiple choice tests, choose C if you aren't sure!!    ;D
It's the first step...congrats!!

 :rofl;

One form asks about my psychological "issues." I have anxiety and depression and take meds for it. I vaguely remember reading somewhere on here about filling that type of stuff out, but can't find it. They'll be getting my medical records, so they'll know I'm on the meds. What should I say?

Be honest.  They will see all your medical records anyway.  Explain why you take the meds. Believe me, being on an anti-anxiety or anti-depression med is nothing new to them.  Seems to a part of kidney failure.

Which order things are done in and what clearances you need from which docs depends on the center you go to. When I had my transplant 5.5 years ago in NC, they approved me into their program and then told me that they had to have OK's from my dentist, GP, and gyno before we could proceed (I had a living donor). I got listed this year at a hospital in GA, and before they would even see me I had to have a pap and if I had been over 40 I would have had to have a pap. In addition, the day I met with the ones in GA they had me get an ultrasound, a test of lung capacity, x-rays, and LOTS of blood drawn.

My recommendation is do whatever they ask for without complaint. Also, go ahead and tell them about the meds. As you said, they'll have your medical records, so they'll know anyway.

Good Luck to you! You'll do fine. My advice is if you have any tests done at a medical facility other than the transplant center, get copies of results. For example, I had to provided a copy of my TB test results on three different ocassions because they lost the test results. I'm so happy for you! :cuddle;
