Yesterday Wade woke up feeling stuffy and like he had a cold. Today, it only got worse. He pulled himself off NxStage early because he was having horrible chills and his temperature was going up. We just paged the on-call nurse, and he's going in first thing tomorrow morning to see his doctor.
The last time he had a temp and the chills, it ended up to be Staph and he was in the hospital for 4 days, and had to get a temporary femoral, and a new chest cath. Were all trying to keep positive and hope that his doctor can figure out something that will keep him out of the hospital and without a femoral!
-
We're off to the hospital. :thumbdown;
-
Good luck :thumbup;
-
Good luck...there are some nasty colds going around (I know I've got it...) so we'll hope for that and not staph.
-
Well, since we didnt think much of it, we took him to the smaller, closer hospital. They didnt think it was best for them to handle it, so they transferred him to the big hospital. As of now, 7:15 AM, hes chillin' in the ER waiting for a room. They were putting in a new chest cath as I was leaving. They know he has an infection of sorts - they're almost positive it's staph, as he has knee pain as well. Ugh, but nothing we haven't gone through before - he was in the same hospital for the same thing on July 4th.
The only negative thing is that they think they won't have a room for him until this afternoon! :rant;

:cuddle;
Thinkin of ya both
Tamara xxxx oooo :grouphug;

Thinking of you both. :grouphug;
Get well soon, Wade.
-
How are you guys doing? :cuddle;
-
I came home to get a bit of sleep and i'm heading back to the hospital now. Wade is STILL in the ER waiting on a room. This is why we haaaate going to MCV Hospital when he needs to go to the ER, because of the delays. He was feeling better already when I left around 7, although this was before the new chest cath was put in. I'm sure he's being a tough guy and doing great.
More updates later tonight, when I get home.
-
Dang, Kari! Sure hope Wade's doing better. Hang in there, and get some sleep yourself!!
-
Good luck and I hope he feels better!
-
Well, we've certainly had the interesting day of the year.
First off, Wade is sleeping soundly in his own ICU room. Finally. Because the hospital his doctor is at is a major medical center, its much better for him to be in ICU at times like this. Plus, his blood pressure was SCARY LOW, but they gave him some meds and he responded really well and when they got him off them, he was still doing great. They have decided it is staph, and they're treating it very aggressively. We're hoping that in a few days, once the staph clears up, and hes fixed up, he should be home. Thank god. There's nothing I hate more than not having him here. And, of course, I hate having him there. Plus, in todays paper, there was an article about a local teenager who passed away from an antibiotic resistant strain of Staph! Scary stuff...
Second, he was in the ER for over 12 hours waiting for a bed! Insane. However, the hospital is a big-time trauma center for the entire state, so we overheard some crazy things. 6 car accident, some kind of train mishap (he was being very LOUD!) = it was insanity. Plus, and this is the winner (NOT): A former employee of the hospital decided today would be a great day to jump off the roof. The hospital is 15 stories high. :banghead; It pissed me off so much - I dont care if the guy wanted to kill himself, but he could have at least signed his donor card and given a kidney to Wade or someone else first. Or he should have walked through the ER and the pediatric ICU units to get a grip. Anyway, it was crazy busy exciting and made the time go by.
It is really always something when it comes to us.
Now - sleep! As lame as it sounds, we'd never spent a single night apart until he was diagnosed, and I don't think I had any decent sleep that entire month and half! Now, its a given - if Wade's not here, I can't sleep. I guess thats what Tylenol PM is for! ;)

Good freekin grief! What torture.
And you're right -- why jump off the building and take all those precious organs with you???

Man falls 15 stories to his death
By Sean Muserallo, NBC12 News
A man took a deadly fall from a 15-story building in downtown Richmond today. It happened at a construction site at the VCU Medical Center campus.
The man fell to his death from what will soon become VCU’s new critical care hospital. Initial reports indicate he may have been on scaffolding at the time of the fall.
Bill Gibson was one of several construction workers stunned by what they saw at work Tuesday.
“It’s in the back of your mind often when you work near the edges of the roofs on scaffolds and such,” Gibson said.
The victim was not a construction worker. Rather, hospital officials say he used to work for a temp agency at the site. His last day on the job was in August.
There is no official word on what he was doing back on the job site Tuesday.
No one on the ground was hurt when the victim landed on the street below. The road is partially closed for construction.
Workers were told to take the rest of the day off and come back to work Wednesday.

I just spoke with him - he is coming off of dialysis using his FISTULA! Hooray! First time seemed to have worked great! :bandance;
I need to call the nurse and find out what all of his stats are - he said something about his heart rate spiking a bunch. We are not happy about that! I just hope he can get out of the ICU soon - it's scary in there. Plus, he needs to do a step-down thing to get out - they wont release him from the ICU to home. Then again, he doesnt have a roomate!
I need to go to work now, and i'm heading straight back to the hospital when I get done. I wish I had little elves at home cleaning and cooking for me. Ugh, its nice to dream!
-
Oh, Kari! That is WONDERFUL news about Wade!!! We're thinking of you both, and I know EXACTLY what you mean about wishing for elves!! I want some!!!! Heck, we'll train a league of them and send them out to all our IHD family members, so we can have MORE time online! :2thumbsup;
-
Well, I just got a call at work that Wade's heart rate spiked something awful to over 200 beats a minute. Eeek!
So, i'm on my way down there.
In further proof that Wade and I are somehow jinxed - there was an EXPLOSION at the hospital today.

Somebody, somewhere is looking out for us. Mostly Wade. Today his heart rate was over 200. And skipping beats. Scary stuff. After meds and a bolus, it was only down to around 160-170. It stayed there for about 6 hours. The docs decided it would be best to shock his heart back into gear. Wade and I were both scared shitless. Right before I was headed out of the room, and as they were slapping the paddleythings on him, his heart rate magically hit 110 out of nowhere. And stayed there. NO SHOCK NEEDED! :bandance;
Also, because of the power explosion at the hospital, everything was all crazy - but not in the ICU! So, we were very lucky that he was able to stay there. There is a Mickey Deez in the hospital, and Wade managed to eat some nuggets! He is feeling much better, and I am very grateful for all your well wishes and prayers! Let just get the boy home already ... our king size bed is just too big and cold without him here.

By the way, Anne, where in Jersey? My sister and her hubby live in Scotch Plains, I dated a guy from Keyport for a hot second, and I grew up on Long Island while Wade grew up in Stanford. Yeaaaaah, Tri-state areaaaa!!!!
-
Carrie,
Just read your post. So happy to see Wade is better, and
you are rite- it does seem magical the way his heart rate
slowed on its own-hooray!! I really believe in angels, they
do work in mysterious ways at times :angel;
We live in Ocean County NJ, rite outside of Toms River.
Sending you more good thoughts, and hoping Wade will
be going home real soon

Sounds like atrial fibrilation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atrial_fibrillation)?
-
THAT is WONDERFUL!!!!! :clap; :clap; I am so happy and so pleased that Wade didn't have to go through the paddles!!! Whew!!! Chicken nuggets are ALWAYS good for what ails ya!!! Hang in there, Wade's coming home!!!!! :grouphug;
-
Stu, I had not thought of that!!!! Of course!!! We got a scare with that with my fiancee several years back, same symptoms, and it went down on its own. Kari, have Wade drink coke/pepsi, anything with caffeine, for some reason that will slow the heart down. Serious!!
-
Doctor Stu - I think thats exactly what he has!
They're moving him currently out of ICU and into some kind of room (i forget the name, but it starts with a "t" and sounds like something -otomy) where they can keep tabs on his heart.
Then, hopefully, he will come home tomorrow! :yahoo;
-
It's all a crazy roller-coaster ride, that's for sure...but keep on keepin' on and know we're all pulling for you!! :waving;
-
:yahoo; So glad to hear Wade is doing better, he is out of ICU and he will be home tomorrow :bandance;
-
He's in the cardiac unit right now. He was put in as a transfer at 7am, and didnt get to his room until 8PM. Hate it. I hope it doesnt affect him getting out tomorrow!!!
Hes doing great - feels fine, grabbin' boob, making jokes, being hilarious. He's going to be fine.
And, holy crap guys - he has the NICEST hospital room I have ever seen in my life! Hardwood floors, flat tv, nice window treatements, private bath with slate tile = it is POSH. Check me in!
