Title: Newbie from Northern Kentucky
Post by: KR Cincy on October 05, 2007, 12:19:20 PM: Hi folks...what a great site this is! I'm Kevin and I'm here because 2007 has been a baaaad year! After knowing I had PKD (and was seeing a neph for the last 10 years) things went really bad and they found cancer in both kidneys. I went to Vanderbilt for an attempt at a partial on my left kidney, but there was too much cancer so out it came. Two months later, I had the other kidney removed because the mass was located in a bad place and they were afraid they might leave a cell behind. So I've been on hemodialysis since March 24...and started doing home hemodialysis on NxStage in May (thank God for my wife who does the sticks.) I have to prove I'm cancer-free for five years before I'm allowed a transplant...though I intend on starting to whine at about 3 years!

I'm enjoying reading the posts and look forward to contributing what I can.

Welcome. Sorry about the cancer but hopefully you have remedied that situation and can stay healthy with the home hemo!

You certainly have been facing some real challenges, but it is always a tribute to the strength of the human spirit when you are still able to enjoy life. We look forward to hearing more from you.
