Title: Pain Meds and Kidney Problems.
Post by: angela515 on October 01, 2007, 12:25:30 PM
First let me post this quote that inspired me to ask these questions:

I was taking four ibuprofen every four hours to be able to continue to work. I had no idea I was damaging my kidneys.

Now, in my case, I am not taking Ibuprofen... but I am taking very strong pain medicines. Lortab and Oxycodone. Will this do damage to my transplant in the long run? Just curious, because I know I will be on these drugs for a very long time until the problem I have is fixed another way other than pain management.

Otto has been on pain meds after having his hips replaced and he did fine, but they always checked what would be safe with th transplant team first.

I don't think people know how much damage Ibuprphen can do to their kidneys. I think they think because it is over the counter it is safe.
I tell everyone to stay away from it if they can.
