Title: Haunted Houses
Post by: Sluff on September 27, 2007, 04:57:57 PM
When is the last time you have been to a haunted house? Share your story here.

My son is working in one this year and we are going to it Friday night.

I love haunted houses but unfortunately I never have time to go to one because I am always busy in October getting my own "haunted house" ready for halloween. Our house is 85 years old, and it has some interesting history. It is the old family home of one of my Jr. High/high School classmates (his grandparents built our house and his dad grew up in this house). His grandmother was crazy and hung herself in the doorway in what used to be the garage - it is now our "back room". My kids have always been convinced that our house is haunted. I have never noticed paranormal activity, but we do throw kick ass Halloween parties!

Very awesome set up. Does your son get to be one of the creepy characters?

A few years ago one of the mega churches in town advertised for a  "House of Horror" (they didn't use the church's name in the advertising). Anyway, it was all about abortion and sinful living. How disgusting and misleading.  :P

Yes he will be on the walk in the woods. He will be putting his Cadet skills to good use dressed in camouflage, along the trail and sneaking up on people.

I LOVE haunted houses.  I go to them not because they scare me (they really never do), but to watch and laugh at the other people that are screaming their fool little heads off.  I'm one of those people though that have the weird specialty contacts and fangs that attach with denture adhesive so when people get a look at me in line they get freaked out.  I wear normal jeans and a T-shirt though nothing special.  The haunted house people don't like us as much because the only way they can get us is to jump out of nowhere to scare us and thats really just surprise more than scare.  The one thing to remember is that the actors in the haunted houses can't touch you and you shouldn't touch them and you will always have a good time.

I had a radio remote two years ago at a haunted house in Sonoma, CA.  The star from the original "Friday the 13th" was there so no one really cared I was on-site.  I took a tour of the haunted house so I could talk about it on the air and it was freaky.  After everything I've been through on Dialysis, I can't watch horror movies much less enjoy a haunted house.

I've sworn them off since then.

Well, I was forced to go to Halloween Horror nights (one of the first ones, they still has the crypt keeper involved in it...man I'm old). I spent most of the night trying not to look scared in the haunted houses and pretending to be tough which worked...until the midway. They had free roaming monsters with these chainsaw like things that would sneak up on you...erm...well I uh...He may have been hit :boxing;. We got thrown out and I NEVER have to go to another haunted house :yahoo;

I still feel kinda bad about it, but he scared me AND had a chainsaw (yeah it was fake, but I didn't process that information until later).

I get scared just watching scary movies. Going to a haunted house would definitely cause a major bout of insomnia, heck, I wouldn't go ANY where near a dark room... OOOOOO!!!!! I'm a wimp, and I am proud to say so!!  :rofl;

You know what the first thing I saw in your picture was?

the Organ that is behind you! -- How old is it?  What kind is it?  Is it a foot-pump bellows organ?

Yes, I'm a musician too.  :)

Actually I'm not sure...I'll try to find out. It's at the haunted house, and it's there to make you feel like your in an old mansion-like house. It's there for the effect. I've never seen it used.

Here's my front yard from last year - we make a little graveyard on the lawn and a ghost on the balcony - we love Halloween in our neighborhood!
Not haunted, but a little spooky! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2yk_lDBwwY

 :lol;  It's mostly psycological...but when you add crazed teenagers that have the stamina and mental toughness required to work there, it can turn into a wild scene. Thats what makes haunted houses so scary. People have nightmares or ideas, and then recreate them. Its no longer scary to them and they have fun scaring others.....which is way too much fun!!!!

Then word of mouth gets going, and you have yourself a business. The cool thing is technology. The house has awesome scares because of technology, and word of mouth is better with technology. Internet, phone, and others. When you get scared you get the fight or flight response, which is actually healthy for you. If you experience that feeling you will be healthier, because your reactions and senses are turned on to the max. If your senses are stimulated like that, your body goes through a "systems check"...or what we call "refresh the page" on the computer. If your body does that it makes sure your 5 senses are working properly, and thus creating a healthier you.
