Hi everyone! :waving;
My name is Charlene and I'm 46 years old. I've been dealing with scleroderma and hypertension for the last 20 years. Now, along comes kidney dialysis. I'm pretty ok about the dialysis situation - I mean, it could be worse, right? I truly believe in focusing on the posiitive - I have one life to live, and I plan on making the best of it!
I'm about to switch from hemodialysis to peritoneal dialysis (possibly next month. I'm a little nervous) The reason I'm switching is because I'm 5'3" 95 lbs. My veins are just too small for a good hemo access. I have an appointment next week with a surgeon to discuss the peritoneal access
I had a vascular fistula (3/30), an angioplasty (6/25), and then a revised fistula (7/9). My veins just won't cooperate. :banghead;
I've been using my original tesio catheter in my chest since May 4th.
I haven't minded going to hemo 3 days a week (gives me 4 days off!). The staff at Fresensuis is awesome . . . so nice, humorous, and really friendly. But, I do come home completely wiped out.
So, that's my situation in a nutshell. I'm really looking forward to chatting with others, here. You all seem really very nice.
If you happen to be on peritoneal dialysis, I'd especially LOVE to hear from you. I've gotten so use to the hemo, I'm just a little nervous about switching to perinoneal, like I mentioned.
FYI: My username is MyRenalRomance (an homage to My Chemical Romance + I liked the alliteration.
I am not affiliated with RenalRomance.com. I'm hoping to change my username (if possible) to avoid any confusion. (If I can switch, I'll re-introduce myself) I did not see their ad when I signed up!
Just for fun . . . some of my interests:
reading, going to concerts, keeping up with my teens and their activities. My 17 year old plays HS Varsity volleyball, and my 13 year old just joined a rock band. My hubby is super supportive, and since I'm tired ALOT, we watch a lot of dvd movies at home.
Thanks for listening :thx;

Hi!!! I am 46 too!!! I am on PD, I heartily recommond the cycler, so much!!!! You'd start out on the manual, which is fine, but as soon as, grab the cycler!!! I love it. I feel so much better, so much in control of my life. There is the problem with infections at the site, but they'll give you hints, and we will too!!! Oh, and you may gain weight....ick. But, once it's working as it should, it is such a wonder!!!

Welcome to our community. So glad you found us. You will enjoy it here. There is the serious stuff - good information about everything to do with renal failure. But there is also the fun stuff - like the arcade. And there is the crazy stuff - you are sure to find that without me telling you!
This site has become a real family to many of us. Just take advantage of all it has to offer.
I am on Hemo - the only option in my Caribbean country, but there are lots of PD and there is a section which deals with it. Keep posting and let us know what is going on with you. :grouphug;

Welcome to IHD. You will love the freedom that PD it gives you when you use a night-time cycler. There are lots of posts which cover PD from the initial catheter surgery to all the day to day routine of PD dialysis in general. I do hope PD works for you. If there's anything you can't find the answer to just ask as there are a quite a number of us here who do PD. and could probably answer most questions :grouphug;

Hi Lulu,
When are you going on PD? Have you had your catheter inserted, yet? Were you previously on hemodialysis? Sorry for all the questions. I see my new surgeon in 4 days to discuss the PD catheter procedure.
Thanks for the welcome! :thx;

What about the Misfits? I cant seem to get into MCR - partly because I used to roll in the same circle of friends as them when I lived in NYC, and also becuase I think, and always have thought, they were a misfits rip-off. I do like Alkaline Trio too - do you? You might want to check them out, they're less flamboyant and more punk, but they're into that whole darkrock/post emo stuff.

I like the Misfits, but haven't listened to them for quite a while. I have a couple of their cds. I admit I don't know much about the Misfits - only that MCR was quoted as being influenced by them, and enjoyed their music.
I really like Alkaline Trio, alot! Crimson is one of my favorite cds of their's. As for Alkaline Trio, I only know that MCR had toured with them. Got any cd suggestions for me, as I only have 1 Alkaline Trio cd?
You used to roll in the same circle of friends as MCR when you lived in NYC? That's cool!
What other bands do you listen to? Seen any good shows lately?
I love talking about music, concerts, and NHL/SJ Sharks games. Like hockey, by any chance?
Nice meeting you! :waving;

Yeah, I used to roll with the Jersey kids up there...In fact, Alex "Eyeball", who signed them to their first record deal, is one of my good friends. I never got into the MCR thing - they were a little too bratty and unoriginal for me. Obviously, the people buying their albums dont think that way! As for Alkaline Trio albums - Crimson is a newer album. I prefer the older stuff. You might want to check out the self-titled album, or "maybe i'll catch fire" - = both are amazing.
I havent been to any shows for some time. Dealing with Wade being sick has been rough. I think the last show I was at was the Inquisition reunion show back in May or June here in Richmond. I will, however, be going to see Lucero and then Avail a few days later. Pretty excited about that!
Me? Hockey? I'm sorry. I can watch it, but I cant talk it!

So, you knew the Jersey kids back in/before the "I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love" days (love that cd). That's a long time ago (kinda) yeah, I can imagine they were bratty back then!
Thanks for the Alkaline Trio suggestions. I'll look into those. My itunes is giving me problems this am. I think it wants me to upgrade to the newer version, but I'm happy with my current version!
Nah - I can't talk hockey much, either. I just love watching our Sharks play! On tv and at the HP Pavillion. I can only talk about the Sharks. We SJ Sharks fans are obssessed!
I'm sorry to hear about Wade. I don't know much about him, or his situation. Guess I need to do a search on this site. Or . . . I'm a good listener! (hint hint)
Take care - and hope to chat, again, soon!

My apologies, Sluff. I'm still getting acquainted on to how to use this board.
I guess I get confused when replying to someone's reply to my introduction, and I want to comment them back with info they give me about themselves. So, I would start a new thread?
Just a question? How would that person know I was replying to them, specifically. (and I apologize, AGAIN, that this is off-topic for this section). But your answer ought to clear things up for me.
Thanks.
