Title: Never Ending Altruistic Donor - For the recipient and donor who don't match
Post by: okarol on September 12, 2007, 03:33:33 PM

This site is for donors who want to learn about donating in the NEAD (Never Ending Altruistic Donor) chain -- What happens is that the recipient’s willing donor, who was found to be incompatible, is freed up to give to someone else with whom they are found to be compatible; and that person’s willing but incompatible donor can then donate to someone else who is a good match, and on and on. Because this is a cascading sequence of willing kidney donors, it is called a donor chain; because it starts with an altruistic – selfless – donor and because all the donors that follow are giving to someone who was not in their original circle, it is called an altruistic donor chain. If that chain of donors continues and never stops, it is “never ending”.

Karol, I was on their website last night searching for more information.  I kind of think my fight for finding a solution to this positive crossmatch thing is wearing out.  I keep going to websites, but I am doing it all by myself.  My family is great, but my husband is like an ostrich with his head in the sand and doesn't like to even read much about the whole thing. My kids are willing to donate and have been throught testing,  but are very busy with their own lives (as they should be) and have limited time for researching.    It is a good website,easy to navigate.  Thanks Karol, for all the research you do for us.  It is greatly appreciated. :thx;
