Title: Dialysis Class
Post by: KarenB on September 05, 2007, 02:23:34 PM
I went to my dialysis class yesterday and it was pretty generic.  I did learn a few things though.  I don't
want hemo for sure.  The needle is sooooo big!  I'v always wanted to do the pd and that is what my
nephrologist suggested also.  I have a real positive attitude about the whole thing and I think that will help.  I have learned more from this group than anywhere.

Karen I am predialysis so I really don't have the experience to make that decision but from what I have learned here on IHD, I think you made a good decision.  Good Luck  :thumbup;

I think once you get the routine down (and used to all the boxes) it will be smooth sailing for ya.  Good Luck and please do not hesitate to ask us anything  :2thumbsup;

Now, that it seems a transplant isn't going to happen, my neph is asking me to go to the 3 hour "tour" and start making my choice. We have talked about nxstage, he seems to be heading me toward pd. His center will be starting nocternal in-center hemo in a couple of months.  We have been putting this off for awhile, hoping a new kidney was going to be the way we went. But as always, we are not in control of anything.   I think my husband is having a harder time than me---he likes to keep thinking none of this is happening!     Good luck, Karen. Keep us posted on your choice and how you are doing.

:twocents; Check out every available center before you decide where to go.  All are not equal.

Any chance to do any kind of daily dialysis is a better choice than 3X weekly.

Home dialysis is usually much better than in center.

PD may be a better way to start but also involves more health risks.

Don't forget that the "buttonholes" are not nearly as painful as the ladder method of sticking a new place every time.

Only YOU can decide what YOU want to do; don't let the neph or the center make the decision for you.
 :twocents;  Good luck.
