Title: Redbomb here -- my Introduction
Post by: Redbomb on August 29, 2007, 04:52:14 PM
I'm so glad that I found this board and thanks to Goofynina I now have an account!  :D

I live in Lincoln Nebraska (Go BIG RED) am a Male and 52 years old.  I was first diagnosed with Kidney failure about 3 years ago.  At that time the Dr. said that I'd probably be on Dialysis in about a year.  At that time I also had my fistula created.

Last month the Dr. said, "Well, it is now time for you to start Dialysis" and suggested that I opt for the Home-Hemo and he approved it even though I live alone and won't have anyone around.

Last week I went in for my training and they tried to access my fistula.  no Luck.  Went in later that afternoon for a fistulagram (sp?) and they had to balloon about three areas.  The next day they tried to access my fistula again and again no luck (now I have this great big purple bruise on my upper arm).  So, on Thursday I went into the Hospital and they put in a perma-cath.  :( .  Had my first dialysis treatment in the hospital that afternoon and my second one on Friday morning.   I had MAJOR cramps around hour-3 of that treatment.  I can tell you that when i was off that machine I was ready to rip out my perma-cath and never go back for Dialysis again.

However, better reasoning grabbed me by the ears and I've had two treatments this week and no cramps *whew*.  :)

Hopefully my Fistula will settle down and when they do the fistulagram in two weeks we can start using that and I can go back to my training for home-hemo (I love the NxStage Machine already!) and I can get rid of this darn permacath!

Look forward to talking/posting/chatting with all of you!

 :welcomesign;  Hubby has been on dialysis for 10 years - pd, in center and nocturnal home hemo.  Things do get better. Takes a while to get your dry weight and for your body to get used to dialysis.

Well well well Redbomb, Welcome to Ihatedialysis.com, glad to see you made it (finally) ;)  Excellent introduction my friend.  Sorry to hear all the trouble you had with your fistula and i hope they get that up and working again soon.  Having a perm-cath is a pain in every sense of the word, i am sure we can all vouch for that, but hopefully soon you will be doing home hemo and feeling great again  :2thumbsup;  Did they happen to discuss PD with you as well?  That is also another option you may consider if Home Hemo doesnt work out for you.   :thumbup;  Well, as i have said before, i look forward to hearing more from you and do not hesitate to post any questions, comments and/or concerns of your own, and if there is something in particular you are looking for, do not hesitate to ask, we will be more than happy to help you find whatever it is you need.  Thanks for becoming a member  :beer1;

My current weight won't allow me to do PD according to the Dr.  That is also why I'm currently not transplant eligible.  I'm trying to loose weight, but It's HARD!  Hopefully I'll get my weight down within a couple of years so I can go on the Transplant list. *crosses fingers*

Sorry for taking this off topic folks but WTF??  Why are these docs telling these patients that due to their "size" or "weight" PD is not an option, I am a large woman and i dont have any problems with it, if you are truly interested in doing PD, i would demand to speak to the surgeon himself, my doc had told me no but he scheduled me an appt. with the surgeon anyway and thank God he did, the surgeon  said of course it would work, we will make it work and so far so good,  just letting you know that size doesnt matter in some cases.   OK, sorry, had to get that off my chest for the umpteenth time  :rant;   We can resume to welcoming RedBomb to our awesome site ;)
