Title: Hello. Introducting myself
Post by: MEurto on August 29, 2007, 09:50:00 AM
:D Hello.  First I am not a dialysis pt, I am a MSW.  I was told about this site by my pt's favorite neurologist.  When I first logged on I was relieved, happy and astonished all at the same time.  Finally a place that is truthfull!  I am not like most MSW's.  I don't like to "sugar coat" things.  I like to put everything on the table then deal with it.  I try to teach this to my pt's.  If something is not working in their life or if they choose to change something, I will teach them how to do just that.  I see my job as helping my pt's (side note: I know I keep saying "my pt's" Really I belong to them as their MSW, not them belonging to me as pt's after all I work for them.  But for the sake of time...)

OK so why am I here?
I am furious with all the systems  :rant;
I can NOT deal w/ the insurance and gov't companies  :banghead; AND I am not feeling ill, or tired, or have 1million things on my plate to deal with.
I believe in humor and being positive.  :rofl;  I believe that good emotional health is just as important as physical health.  It's difficult enough for anyone to "need" dialysis but to have to sit in a chair for hours on end several X's a week.

I want honest answers from those on dialysis.  I want to do my job better and I want to be told what my pt's like and what they want me to do different.  No sugar coating people!
Dialysis really does suck.  So, how can I make is just a little better?

I want to do my best...I want to improve your time at dialysis.....let pt's do "whatever they want".  Do you want to sleep?  If so sleep. But also let's have some fun.  You are here.  It doesn't have to be gloomy.  Let's make jokes, let's laugh, let's learn from each other.  I try to teach my patients and give them the skills to face their life and to cope.  BUT, trust me...I am not too big for my britches. Most of the people in here have much more life experience than me.

A little about myself.  I am retired from many years as a police officer, I have over 5 yrs working in mental health and providing therapy and now I have worked in dialysis for a little over a year.  I have gained a lot more life experience than most people my age but I still have much to learn.

I hope you will accept me into your network here.

EDITED:  Moved post to proper thread "introduce yourself" - Goofynina/Admin.

Hi MEurto,  Welcome to ihatedialysis.com and please do not worry about being "accepted" here, once you become a member, you become family, that is why our site is so AWESOME ;)   I admire why you are here, i wish more employees in the dialysis (or any medical field) did more research to better not only the care of their patients but the life of the patient as well.  You are ACE in my book my friend.  I am sure you will find lots of good info here and i am sure you have lots to add as well.  Anything you need and cannot find, please do not hesitate to ask, we are here to help anyway we can  :2thumbsup;  Looking forward to hearing more from you, take care and on behalf of all the lucky patients in your care "Thank You"  :bow;

 :waving; Hi MEurto,

Wow, jobs with police work, mental illness and now dialysis? Sounds like you are prepared for just about everything!

Patients need the best advocates they can get - there are plenty of techs and nurses who contribute to the stress of dealing with an illness.

Good luck to you!

Welcome to the neighborhood.  It is very cool that you are looking for ways to help your patients.  Can I get you to work on getting cable TV in my unit? I miss the food network. *Sigh*

Welcome to our community.  We are so glad you decided to join us.  The founder of this site had a vision that all people connected to renal failure, however slightly or even not at all, should be able to come here and be a part.  Because of that, we have all types here - patients, people who will be patients, doctors, dietitians, techs, nurses, caregivers, loved ones, and maybe just interested ones.  We have become a caring and sharing family here.
I enjoyed your intro and am really looking forward to your contribution to our site.  Take advantage of all it has to offer.  We even have an Off-Topic section that has nothing to do with dialysis, and a games section.
Here is a group hug to welcome you.  :grouphug;

I want you as my social worker!!! Man, if more were like you, we would be getting answers
or at least feedback. I don't know about the others here, but I feel I am being patronized by
 the people at the clinic.  NOT a good way to get me to open up!! Back to the topic...WELCOME!!!

 :welcomesign;,

It is so nice to hear that you like being involved with your patients. Where my son goes to dialysis he seems to have a good time with the staff. He is a jokester and then there are days when he wants left alone to sleep.
Welcome to this forum!!! And thank you for caring for your patients.
