As many of you know i had a transplant that lasted over ten years. In the three years i have been on dialysis i have gone on "The List". I don't get any responce from "Them" when i inquire as to where i am on the list. My one brothers girlfriend showed some interest in being a donor. I have had this happen a couple of times. People who care think they may want to donate. When the time comes to get checked they sometimes get scared. This to me is very normal. Just to know that someone has thought about doing it for me is a blessing. I feel bad when i see her because i know she has given it second thoughts. Which in it's on way is good. She has not taken a blood test to see if she can even be a good match so i don't know nor would i ever push the subject. Now i will get to the point to this long message. I have not been on IHD for a while. There are many reasons. For one i hadn't been feeling to good. For another i have met a wonderful woman who i have been seeing. She is the same blood type as i and wants to see if she can be a potential donor. Today we went together to the hospital for the blood test. Afterwards i took her out to lunch and discussed the whole thing. We are now waiting to see what happens. If it is meant to be it will be my friends. :clap; :bandance;

I'm so happy for you keef :bandance;

I hope the best for you hun! :)
To comment on the "Where am I on the list" thing... you will never find that out because the list is constantly changing every minute. People are being added, people are being taken off (due to getting a transplant, getting taken off the list for not being able to have one anymore or by choice, due to dying and so on) people are being moved up to the top for possible matches and so on. So in reality.. nobody has a number on the list. Like say, if there were 100,000 people on the list, there isn't a number 100,000 and a number 100 and so on. Everytime they add a donor into the computer, the computer looks for the closest matches. Perfect match candidates go all the way to number 1 to be called for first dibs, if they say no or for whatever reason cannot do it.. or there is no perfect match found the top 3-5 closest matches are found. If there is 2 or 3 good matches, they call their coordinators and find out who is the best candidate for first dibs, and the second if #1 declines and so on.

People get points for years on the list and those that have high PRA's get extra points.
However you might ask what your PRA is. If it is really high your transplant center may be waiting for a perfect match as people with high PRA's tend to have a cross positive match with kidneys less than 6 antigens matchs.

Waiting to hear great news- hope the tests show a good match :thumbup;

Thank you all for your kind words. She has been tested and found out she is a match. Not a good one but at least she went for the test. She is going for the other tests as i speak. So far so good.

Keefer you are thought of everyday in the hearts of many here at IHD. We wish nothing but health, wealth and happiness. I give you credit because you are working on two out of three, health and happiness. I hope it all works out for you but don't forget about us. :lol; especially if you find wealth >:D ;) Anyway godspeed to you my friend.

Best wishes to you Keefer with your new friend
and a transplant. I'm happy that you have found someone
that you care about and certainly sounds like she cares for you.

Here is a update on where we stand, I have taken her to all the tests that are involved. Yesterday we went to the last of the tests. I guess we sit and wait for the results. We both have a positive attitude. :thumbup;

keefer, like sluff said a couple of posts back, but if you have the health and happiness then you also have the wealth. Take good care and continue to come by when you can.

So true George!! :thumbup;
Keefer, now all we have to do is pray for the best and prepare for the worse. Good luck to you and please keep us posted on how things turn out :2thumbsup;

Hopefully everything will continue to go well. :)

Well as things sometimes work in life the transplant isn't meant to be. It would be too risky for me to go ahead with it. She wouldn't really be that good of a match. Although the hospital doesn't mind taking the risk i do. No problem though i will carry on. Wow what a hell of a birthday!!!

Hi Keefer,
I am sorry to hear this. I know you must be disappointed. Do you mean not a good match as far as antibodies go?
Thinking of you, my friend. :cuddle;
-
Keefer, I am so sorry. I know the dissapointment. After 5 donors tested, it is still hard to hear each time that it is a no go. I was so hoping yours would go smoothly and quickly. :grouphug;
