Title: How to keep foot dry in shower?
Post by: Ohio Buckeye on August 25, 2007, 06:37:22 PM
I know this probably sounds like a stupid question but does anyone know a failproof
way to keep a foot dry in the shower.  I usually use a 13-gal. trash bag and tape it
real tight around my ankle but sometimes my foot still gets wet, sometimes not.
I also used 2 grocery bags one time but it actually had standing water in it.  I am
supposed to keep my foot dry because of the ulcer and sore toes.  Anyone had
to deal with this?  What worked for you?
Thanks.

I once had a procedure on my toe. The fail proof way of not getting your foot wet, would be to have a bath instead. Just stick it out of the bath and scrub!  ;D It worked for me!

My daughter recntly had some sutures on her leg. Since she wasn't aloud a bath or go swimming, I was told to wrap the area in saran wrap during showers or if she wanted to run in the sprinkler. Maybe try wrappping the plastic wrap around the area first and then plastic bags. Maybe put on a sock first or gauze because I don't think you'd want the plastic wrap against the sore spots.

A single Dad I know would duct tape his kids snowsuits to their gloves and boots to prevent water from getting under the gloves and boots. But I don't think sealing the area around the plastic bags with duct tape would feel very good when you would go to rip it off!

Amanda, I wish I could take a bath but as a pd patient I am not supposed
to take baths, only showers. At least that's what they told me at the clinic.
Romona, I will try the saran wrap thing.  It is always bandaged but I will put a sock
over it and wrap it in saran wrap then plastic bag.  I hope that works.
Thanks for the suggestions gals.

OB,
Can you sit in the shower with your foot wrapped and up on another stool or chair on the outside of the shower?  If a tub shower, can you sit on a stool with your foot wrapped and up on the side of the tub?  Is the tape you use at the top of the bags waterproof?  Are you using very wide tape at the top of the bags--at least 2 inch and better yet 3-4 inch waterproof tape. Water seems to know if there is any place that there is a break between tape and bag!!
Good Luck and hope you find something that works for you.

I don't know if the tape is waterproof or not.
It is surgical tape that I use.

 :oops; !! sorry i forgot about that.

I think the chair/stool thing ginger suggested sounds like a good idea.

I hope you get this sorted out soon.

I think Ginger suggested the best thing for you. It reminds me of my aunt's shower when she was dying of cancer.. she had a stool sitting in the shower, so you could do like Ginger suggested and put one outside of it and sit down and shower with your foot out of the shower. Or just sit your foot outside the shower on the tub ledge.

Or else you can try the Hokey pokey method...Put your left foot in, put your left foot out, put your left foot in and shake it all about.... :clap; :bandance;

I crack myself up sometimes! :rofl; :rofl;
