Title: Blood Drive
Post by: KT0930 on August 24, 2007, 07:09:00 AM
Just wanted to share this...we're holding a blood drive today, and in an office with 30 people, we have eighteen people signed up plus another twenty-two from outside the company!  :yahoo;

In addtion, my boss has allowed me to set up a table in the waiting area all about organ donation and kidney disease. I have several flyers about the local kidney walk in October, facts about kidney disease, numbers and myths and facts about organ donation, and organ donor cards. Hopefully this will get some people to talk to their families about organ donation as well (I also got permission from our Red Cross coordinator).

I'll let you know how it all goes!

Great idea KT - it's so important to take an active role - if you can - to raise awareness!  :2thumbsup;

Sorry I didn't check in yesterday, we had a Cub Scout function for my son, and when I got home at 1:00 p.m., I went to bed and pretty much stayed there until dinner time (damn I hate ESRD!!)

Anyway, the last number I heard from the drive was about an hour before it ended and we had collected 26 or 27 pints, and I'm led to believe they consider this a "successful" drive. When we were at 15 pints, the charge nurse was calling her hourly numbers in, and she said we'd be welcome to have another drive, and they even brought the Bloodmobile out for us.

Unfortunately, most of the people using the waiting area where my table was were friends of my boss, and so they were all socializing while they were waiting. Only three people even looked at the table, my boss's wife and my parents! Though my boss's wife did offer to donate a kidney and took my coordinator's contact information. Now if my coordinator will call her back...

I would call that a very successful day!
