Hello All,
Sorry, I could have sworn I posted this update. My transplant date of Aug.14 was postponed. Let me tell you my last 30 days. :rant;
On July 17 my Dr. calls me and tells me that my creatinine was 6.1 and she would like me to have a permacath put in and have a heart cath test(2stress tests inconclusive). After the permacath was put in I did dialysis :banghead;(1st time in 16 years) for two hours, and the next day three hours and the third consecutive day three hours(was supposed to be 3.5 hrs but I asked for a break, three days in a row,damn). My creatinine pre-dialysis was 7.1. Now comes my permacath nightmare. After my first dialysis my permacath oozed for about 45 minutes, mind you I just had it put in hours ago(hurt like hell even after two shots of morphine), anyway dialysis call special procedures(who put the cath in) and they sent up a nurse. She put a pressure dressing and then applied direct pressure, felt like she had a knee on my throat. The pc didn't ooze as much the next day or the following but Friday evening the nurse noticed the pressure dressing soaked and changed it. Yada, yada, yada, 3 A.M. Dr. pulls it. I was both pissed and relieved. Monday morning (7/23) I got an other permacath on my left side then I was discharged after dialysis.
Oh, I forgot the heart cath test, I had it done because I could not reach my target heart rate during my stress tests(had 2 failed both, guess I didn't study enough), this test is the one that they go up the groin with a probe and see how your heart functioning. Well, I finally passed a test. Now I can get a transplant date, yahoo. Aug. 14 was decided, thats when my sister posted on this board, she was so excited. Our plans of bypassing dialysis came to an end but I'm OK. I think all patients should experience dialysis at least once before a transplant that way the kidney will be cherished even more and probably taken better care of. A week later Tues. July 31, I awoke with severe shoulder pain, thought it was dislocated. I had my pre-admission testing scheduled for 10:45 along with my sister but I told my her that I had to go to the ER first. So at the ER, some orthopedic Dr. see me and they can't decide what to do. My sister made the pre-admission appt. and brought our new transplant coordinator with her to meet me in the ER. I would have to reschedule my pre-admission after they find out whats wrong with my arm. Hours pass and I'm hating the ER, they tell me that I'm waiting to get an MRI of my right shoulder. 9 pm. comes around and I'm out of the ER with two prescriptions, 1 for pain med., and 1 for an MRI of rt. shoulder. Next day I wake with my hand bloated, had the MRI at noon then dialysis at 3pm. The nurses immediately said infection, and when the Dr. came around concured and ordered antibiotics(cipro&gentomycin). Aug. 2, I had such pain in my hand that went to the ER, willingly. I was admitted and they were talking; gout, infection, sudo gout. Sat. morning I had my hand flushed(8 stitches). Diagnosis, staff infection. Let me end this, vancomycin is the antibiotic thats effective and 6 weeks is my sentence. Dialysis is going uneventful and just got word that a new transplant date is set for 9/25, got that Don? Lets try to stay healthy for the next month. Well, will post future updates. Take care
