Title: MJ's Introduction
Post by: mj on August 18, 2007, 05:32:08 PM: Hello everyone. I visited a dialysis center yesterday and they suggested this site to me. My name is MJ, short for Melissa. I am 33 years old, and am at Stage 5 renal disease due to 30 years of Type I diabetes. I am currently at 9% functioning level and due to have a fistula surgery sometime soon to begin hemodialysis. Not sure what to put in my introduction. I am an executive director for a mental health organization for aggressive children with disabilities, primarily autism. I am engaged (12 years, I don't want to rush anything) and live with my fiancee in Richmond, Virginia. That's me in a very small nutshell.

Post by: kitkatz on August 18, 2007, 06:10:47 PM: Wow! Welcome to our site! I taught autistic cildren for several years, I know how rough they can be to work with. Take a look around the site. There is a lot of information here. There are a lot of things for you to decide as you begin dialysis. Life does go on after they put you in the chair for four hours three days a week. Take time to evaluate how you feel and how things fit into your life before giving up anything you want to do!

Gee Melissa, your as bad as my sister, she has been engaged for well its may as well be forever now, it's nearly 20 years LOL, me I'm just as bad, "Living in sin" with my man for the last 8 years.

My father is on dialysis in Richmond, going on a year now. (I live in Gaithersburg, MD.) He's been to two dialysis centers in Richmond now...the one on Dabney Road and now the one on Three Chopt Road in western Henrico. Do you know which center you'll be going to, if you are? Are are you going to be doing home dialysis?

Welcome to the site. I'm not a dialysis patient, but because my father is, I love coming to this website. Soooo much information here!

I will be going doing home dialysis hopefully, if not, then I will be going to the one on Mechanicsville Tnpk because my nephrologist runs that one.
