I have been on several phoslo (up to 10 per day) since I have been on PD.
In May I was in hospital and had a leg blockage and huge heart blockage.
The leg blockage was like cement, hard and was like drilling it out.
Ever since then I have been wondering if the phoslo caused calcium deposits
because of the large amounts of calcium phoslo has. The doc changed me
to renagel and said to take 1 phoslo with each meal plus the renagel.
I'm afraid to take even one. The rengel I believe has no calcium. I am going
back to the doc who did the angioplasties and ask him if he thinks it was built up
calcium deposits, in the meantime I do not want to take phoslo. I've never
had a blockage before in all my years. Have any of you taking phoslo had
any problems like this? I really feel it was caused by the phoslo.

I wasn't on PhosLo long enough to know... I was changed to Renegel b/c PhosLo wasn't helping me... I would definately ask the dr if it was calcium deposits and ask your neph if you can be taken off the PhosLo.

sorry, i don't know anything about phoslo. however i do know renegel has no calcium.

Count me in on those who have been switched from Phoslo to Renagel. I had a very nasty problem with Phoslo which landed me in the ER. The Phoslo was for some reason causing constipation, and I had all that phosphorous building up in my bowel, and it was doing nasty things to me. My calcium levels were also kind of high, so Renagel is a better option for me anyway.

Hello,
I have been using the phoslo for about 9 years. Tried renagel, but didn't like the way it affected me.
A few months ago I had a heart attack and underwent an angioplasty because my artery was 90% blocked.
They assumed it was from my liver disease, in which my body doesn't metabolize fats out of the body, but with your post
now you've got me thinking. I take 3 phoslos with each meal, which adds up to an emormous amount of calcium.
I don't like to have to chew tablets, so I don't want to be on Fosrenol either.
I hope someone can shed light on this.
Thanks
Chris

Sorry I don't know what phoslo is. Is it similar to Calcichew? I take Calcichew and Renagel and I've not had any problems to date.

I've been on Fosrenol, and have never had any problems, plus I don't have to take near as many as those taking other types. I only have to take one per meal (I'll take two if I feel I've overdone it with phosphorous), and my numbers are always ok at lab time. I don't think there's any calcium in it.

No calcium, just lanthanum carbonate.
