Thanks guys....you see, here's the deal..... First time having sex after getting the tubes, I bled..... I mean, the fluid from my body came out BRIGHT RED! He freaked out enough that I panicked and called the nurse at midnight just to make sure that I was okay and NOTHING was going to happen to me..... Now, you have to understand that my first encounter with this problem came YEARS after I had the tube in....so it's not like I was having sex on a freshly placed tube..... When I got over the whole blood thing..... it got down to whether or not I'd be able to deal with different positions..... And so far.... I can't seem to manage being on top without having this awful tube in the way..... So far.....what I've done is have sex BEFORE getting hooked up....and it seems to work until I'm in the mood for a "midnight run......" Then I'm just out of luck...... :P

yikes, i never had that problem with red fluid. im sorry i just dont know what to tell ya for that....maybe you will just have to have plain old boring sex while hooked up. or if sex is that important try doing ur exchanges during the day then at night ur free to get down and dirty. :twocents;

I've had bright red fluid before, too...though not as a result of sex (wow, how wild do you get?? LOL). Anyway, my nurse always said that most people burst blood vessels in their peritoneum from time to time, but never know it. Of course, since we drain fluid in and out all the time, we get to see stuff like that. Anything that puts a strain on those muscles - lifting, coughing, sneezing, etc - can cause those blood vessels to burst. It's no big deal, just like a bruise, really.
-
I eventually found out that this "bruising" of the peritoneum can happen with any sort of physical stress placed on the abdomen..... I've also found out that it's okay.... I just have to be aware of my body position and such when I choose to have sex. The last thing I need is to develope a hernia because I was having too much fun..........

I haven't tried it while hooked up to my cycler, but have done it other times, and yes, it is uncomfortable at times. I guess my only advice is do what is comfortable for you. You'll just have to experiment, see what works best for you. good luck!!! (and have a good time!! ;))

id say, go with a manual exchange. drain yourself out and only put in 500 ml max......then do your thing and go do a full exchange. somtimes its the extra weight of the pd fluid that messes things up. :P thats just my opinion tho 2 years into peritoneal dialysis my sex drive took a long vacation.......and wherever it went it pretty much decided to stay there :(

When I first got the cycler I was uncomfortable with having sex while hooked up but my hubby didn't seem to mind at all. You will have to expermiment with the tubing to find a position where you both feel comfortable and you don't get alarms, but you do not have to stick to boring positions. You just have to have patience and a sense of humor.
