Title: Medical Insurance for Holidays Overseas.

Next year Rita and I plan to take a holiday in the Canary Islands and this will involve the inevitable holiday insurance except now I have to have extra cover for any emergencies or hospital tratment involving my kidney condition. Has anyone on IHD any information of how much extra it can cost in particular anyone from the UK doing PD and taking a holiday somewhere in Europe? Are there any insurance companies who specialise in kidney patients? I havn't looked up anything on the net yet or phoned any insurance companies. I think I'd maybe like to hear from  people who have dealt with this kind of situation so that I have an idea what to expect. All replies gratefully received from any country. :thumbup;

First of all look into reciprocal arrangements for citizens of the European Union traveling to other countries of the Union.  Since all these countries have some form of national healthcare, I think some or all of your necessary treatment should be covered.  When I was living in the U.K. in 1995 my German girlfriend had to go for treatment at a British hospital while she was staying with me, and she did not have to pay anything for her care, just because she was insured under the German system.  Since the Canary Islands belong to Spain, perhaps you would be covered as well.
