I always thought organs from healthy population would be more preferrable over us. Am I wrong in thinking this way?

I haven't had a transplant but have signed my donor card. I figure my eyes are good, heart is still in great shape & so if I should die unexpectedly, someone may be able to live on with what I don't need anymore.

I had already signed up as an organ donor before my kidney transplant. I don't know whether any organs could be used because of the immune suprecent medicines you have to take.
-
Being immunosuppressed already might be a good thing when it comes to transplanting an organ from a recipient. Lets say we have bad kidneys and have had a transplant. Our liver, heart, lungs, intestines, corneas, etc. should all be fine for transplant into another person.
I wouldn't mind being a living donor. If a person could use part of my liver or perhaps a lobe of lung I would seriously think about donating those.

I looked into being a bone marrow donor a few years ago, When I was on prednisone it wasn;t possible but now that I'm off it I can probably do it.
I'll share anything I can and I put it in my living will that whatever they can use to take from me. Plus my family knows which is the most important thing.

i have not had a transplant, but i have it marked on my license and my family know my wishes, they can have all of me... well whatever good is left! skin, eyes, organs all of it. :bandance;

I no longer have a transplant but I am marked donor on my DL.
Figure they could use many other parts to save someone or make their life easier.
-
Anything I have they can use, they can have!

I am a firm believer in being an organ donator, I have been long before i knew that I would be the one needing a donation. I think that surly someone would want something out there once I am gone.

A young woman I knew who was a 4 organ recipient recently passed away. Her family was pleased that they could help someone else by successfully donating her corneas, as she had wished.

I have actually tried calling UNOS and various other groups about (it was years ago, don't remember who I called). Anyway, I kept getting told that the determination would be made by the team at the time of death. I've gone ahead and signed up. My four kidneys may be useless (even to me) but my heart, lungs, liver, eyes, etc are all in great shape. My family are all donors as well, of course.
