Title: New member, new to hemo
Post by: Bayamon13 on July 23, 2007, 04:38:54 PM
 :waving;   Hello to all members of this forum. I have been reading as a guest this past week since I started the
Hemo and have decided to be a member.  My name is Miguel and I live in New Jersey, am a 50 years old
teacher. Thanks for having a forum like this. When I was told I needed dialysis, I fell under a severe depression thinking my life was over, that nothing mattered anymore. But by at least reading some of the topics, I have began to pull myself together.  Thanks.

Hi Miguel,  Welcome to ihatedialysis.com.  I think we can pretty much all agree with you on the depression we go through but i must tell you, it does get better with time (and alot of support from friends here on IHD) ;)   Have you thought of perhaps doing PD or Home Hemo?  Are those options for you?  I know since i have been on PD, it has given me a more positive outlook on my life and i hear others feel the same way as well.  Please do not hesitate to ask questions, post comments and/or concerns of your own  :2thumbsup;  Looking forward to hearing more from you  :)

Hi Miguel,

Welcome!  I am a newbie to this forum, but not new to hemodialysis.
Like others have said the depression will get better.  When I was told I needed
dialysis, I was so scared and depressed, I literallly begged God to "take me".
Obviously he didn't listen to me, and here I am 10 years later, pretty happy.
Of course we all get our down days, but your major depression will ease. Especially
if you have support. There seems to be a great deal here on this forum.  Don't be afraid
to ask anything about dialysis or transplant.  Someone here can most likely answer your
questions.
Best Wishes,
Chris    :waving;

Hi Miguel and welcome to this site. I am 51 and am on hemo now for three years. This is my second time. I live in Pennsylvania. Where in New Jersey do you live? I am about an hour from Philadelphia. Hope to talk to you soon.

Hi Miguel!! It does get better. You DO get used to it. It's frustrating, at times, but it does become a way of life.  Welcome, feel free to chime in with comments, questions, the more, the better!  :welcomesign;

Welcome to our community, Miguel!  I hope your nickname and your name mean what I think I mean - that you are from Bayamon, PR.  Cause I know Bayamon very well.  I usually spend time in Toa Alta and Bayamon is where I do lots of shopping - Rio Hondo, etc.  I am so glad you decided to join us.  This website is really a godsend to us facing this renal challenge.  I personally have been immeasurably helped.  I was fortunate enough to find it just when I was diagnosed with ESRD, and just before I started dialysis.  IHD got to me just before the depression would have set in, just after I felt the bottom drop out of my world.
Wow, we have a goodly group of teachers here - the profession on which all professions are based, right?
Please take advantage of all this site has to offer.  Post lots and let us know how you are doing. We are not nosy - we are just family.
