Post by: goofynina on July 16, 2007, 08:47:41 PM
I just got off the phone with my mortgage company and let's just say, it didnt go well.  Does anyone have any tips they can tell me on how to stop foreclosure?  I am sure he was just doing his job but he started telling me to shut off my cable, get rid of my cell phones and get this, he told me to get rid of my internet  :o  THAT'S when i lost it  :boxing;   Let's just say i gave him a piece of my mind, a good piece at that, now i am thinking i should've bitten my tongue  :oops;  Well, the good news is, if we do lose our home and become homeless, we just might be able to make the Vegas trip  :2thumbsup;  But to be honest,  i love my house, i want to keep my house and damn this disease anyways  :banghead; :banghead; :banghead; :banghead; :banghead;

Can you come to any arrangement with the mortgage company where you pay less for a couple of years until you get a bit better off financially? Can your family help you? The cheek of those sons of bitches telling you to get rid of your internet. Whatever happens don't lose touch with us. IHD woud never be the same if we couldnt get your posts.  :banghead;  :(

JoePaul that looks like an excellent site, and I just want to add one thing. Susie you need to contact Social services and get information on  legal aid society in your area. If nothing else they would know the Americans with disabilities act. There maybe some help through them.

Worst case scenario, it takes 6 months to legally get you out of where you are now (at least that's the way it is in Wisconsin). I know that's not what you want but if it must go that way you will have some time to save up for a less expensive form of housing.

{{{{Hugs to you Susie}}}}

Oh no!  Let us know what you are able to find out.  The only thing I can really suggest is checking out www.frugalvillage.com/forums because those ladies are really, really good with coming up with money-stretching ideas, and some of them have been facing foreclosure also.   :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;

:( Sorry to hear about your housing situation.  It is a horrible feeling knowing they want to throw you out like that.  As others have posted I would check out the local government housing website and see if there may be help available to keep you in your home.  Also like Sluff said there has to be something that can be done because of the Americans With Disabilities Act, try talking with your centers social worker they may have leads you can follow up on.  No matter what though any help you get they are all going to tell you that you have to budget better and trim the fat when it comes to spending.  Extras such as cable, cell phones, internet, eating out...etc will either have to go or be switched to cheaper packages.  You could always start by getting rid of the movies channels if you have them and switching to basic cable, switch to a cell phone package with less minutes and less extras, start doing all grocery shopping at Aldi or other discount grocers.  If you aren't already doing these things it may help.  At least if you try this you may not have to get rid of everything, just slim it down a bit.  I know that's not what you want to hear but unfortunately that is probably be the way it will have to go unless you can get assistance from family and friends to get you back on your feet or find cheaper housing.  It's not fun and it's not luxurious, but it keeps you going.  Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm so sorry that you have to go through this! :grouphug;

Any chance you can claim bankruptcy?  If you are unable to do that and truly can't afford your house, I would try selling it before you got to foreclosure.  Hopefully you can get some money from it and then try renting.

Some great sites are:  http://www.daveramsey.com/ - He pulled himself out of debt and now has an online radio show on daily from 2-5 est.  It's really good.

Also check out http://suzeorman.com/ - You can get her books at the local library for free.  She is great.

I went into debt after my first marriage, these 2 sites really helped me turn my financial life around!  They really helped me get out of debt.

Good Luck!

with the ridiculus amount of foreclosures happening thanks to the 'real estate boom' you should be able to talk your lender into seriously cutting the interest rate temporarily. Our lender offered us 0% interest until we could get back on our feet several years ago-as long as we did not let it foreclose.  It lowered our payment over 600 a month... ask about deferring payments until the end of the mortgage-sometimes they will do that too.

I'm sure a $30 internet charge is not going to make or break you.  But, I use to work next the to department that made farm loans and people would not make their loan payment but they had 5 dogs and cell phones and laptops, and ipods, and I would see them out at Restaurants etc....

I'm not saying anything except we ALL could do with a lot less.

Susie, look on Craig's list for Part-time jobs at home.  If you can do this site and you do it very well!!!  Very well!!!  Then you could do some work at home and get PAID for it.  If we could pay you for your work at this site you would not have a Mortgage problem!!  Please feel free to use me for a professional reference.  (we did work together~)

Best of luck.....   www.craigslist.com

This must be one of those times where you really do feel like just a number, not a human being. There is nothing worse than feeling so dehumanised.

To hear how much some people have lost and suffered due to their kidney disease makes me really sad. Nobody CHOOSES to have this disease.

My husband and I are struggling really badly with our mortgage, and it has certainly led to unnecessary arguments over money (which is stress that nobody needs) but we have managed to hang on to our house, despite the struggle. So I consider us very lucky. But I feel for my husband who works hard all week, and gets virtually nothing to spend on himself after he's paid the mortgage, the bills, bought the groceries and paid for my medicines.

My dog Chloe (the smaller one in my avatar) needs a suspicious lump removed from her tummy, and I can't afford it. I've been watching the lump grow bigger for months now, and it just makes me cry. Losing her would be every bit as bad as losing my house, for me.

I just realised I'm ranting. All I wanted to say is that I feel for all of you, and many of you have lost an awful lot more than I have. Group hug -  :grouphug;

Ohhh my friends my friends my friends, will the madness ever end? (i think it will when i die) :P  Last week, we got served papers that we are getting sued for a credit card that we've had for a long time now.  Last October, we joined a Debt Consolidation program and they deduct $350.00 a month from my checking to take care of these bills, we have since changed our number cuz the phone calls were starting at 8 am exactly and not ending until 9:pm exactly, annoying it was and i was about to have a nervous breakdown, so we did change the phone number we've had for the past 10 years, Now, somehow, they are getting it, i dont know how, but they are, I had to breakdown and tell my mom about the papers cuz her name was on the credit card as well, but it was my responsibility, i told her i was going to take care of it, go to court and after talking to the Debt People, they said all they can do is send me a document to show the judge that we are in a Consolidation Program and we need to explain our hardship (which is my health) and that should take care of it.  I hate the fact that i have to go to court but i have to take care of this.  I have come to terms with it and Sam and i went out last night and enjoyed ourselves with a nice dinner just to try and re-group our thoughts and finances, well, guess what,  Today, Sunday, we got served some more papers for another Credit card company. WTF?  What the hell are these debt consolidators doing with all that money i have given them so far? i am totally not understanding this and i am about to break.   Sorry, i dont rant much but dammit, i am pissed  :rant; :rant;

Whew, but i feel a little better just telling you all, soooo, how has YOUR day been :P :)  :popcorn;

Susie, I am so sorry hun.  :grouphug;

Can you call the consolidation people and demand papers to show what they are paying eah month with the money your paying them? I sure hope so, you have the right to know.

I wish I could offer more advice but I have none.. I am in the same situation as you except I dont own a house so I dont really have anything anyone can take from me but my life...

Susie you need to see a lawyer and do a Chapter128.

It is not a bankruptcy, it is a consolidation plan through a trustee, all legal. Add them all up add on trustee fees and filing fees and amoritize the total for 3 years. I have done this and you won't get screwed or bothered with. It is a loop hole for those who can't file or for those who don't want to totally mess up their credit report.

Not all Lawyers are aware of this loop hole call around. I have done it so I know it exists.

WOW I was reading the thread and was going to congratulate you on everything but kept reading till I got to the end.  Man that really sucks that the credit card companies are hounding you now even though you have a debt consolidation company working for you.  Sounds kinda fishy tome that they are after you if you have that company paying them.  I thought those companies worked by negotiating lower intrest rates and by paying your bills and then you are paying them instead of the credit card companies.  I could be wrong though I have never used one of those places before.  Good Luck with everything and keep your chin up.  It will get better.  :grouphug;

I thought those companies worked by negotiating lower intrest rates and by paying your bills and then you are paying them instead of the credit card companies.

I've never used one of those companies, but from what I've heard they do negotiate a lower interest rate, but the way they do it is to not pay the bill for a while and then when the company starts hounding you then they will negotiate. If that makes sense  ???
I would still call the debt consolidation place and find out what they have been doing with the money you have given them.

I hope things get better for you  :grouphug;

I just read this thread for the first time and I am so sorry about what you are going through. I can feel for you as I lost almost everything before I decided to declare bankruptcy! When I was researching whether or not to declare bankruptcy, I heard a lot about those credit consolidators and didn't like what I heard. A lot of consumers were ending up in the same situation you are in, with the credit card companies suing them for non-payment. It turns out that a lot of those places are a scam and the company just completely skip out on paying down your debt.

Here is a great message board site by other people in your situation. They cover everything form credit card debt to bankruptcy to foreclosure. I learned a TON from this site that no bank, loan company, credit card company, etc. would ever tell you. Use what you learn to your advantage--it works! Check it out!!!
