This is a post from a living donor site - a woman who has been through some intense ups and downs trying to become an altruistic kidney donor.
I thought I would share it - it's amazing that there are truly some remarkable people in the world.
Hello again! It's been a while since i have been on this site. in Jan.,2006 i decided i wanted to be a non-directional kidney donor. I went through all the testing and was approved. In July, a recipient was found. the surgery was scheduled for august 26, 2006. i arrived at the hospital and got dressed for surgery. 45 minutes before surgery, the nurse tells me the recipient changed his mind and didn't want to do the transplant. About a month later, i received an email from a lady in Arizona. She had read my posting of ldo and wanted to know if i would be interested in donating to her fiance. I was, and found out we had the same blood type. I flew out to Scottsdale and went through all the testing again, plus some (mayo is very thorough!!) and was approved again. the surgery was scheduled to take place on December 26, 2006. However, on Nov. 27, the recipient passed away. I made myself take some time off but now i am ready to try again and am presently working with Mass. gen. hosp. on Boston. Thanks for reading my post.
