Display to highlight those waiting for organ transplant

Thursday, 06/21/07

An exhibit of 1,921 Tennessee flags -- one for each Tennessean currently waiting on the national transplant waiting list -- will open Monday.

The display, dubbed "Tennesseans Awaiting Independence and Freedom: A Show of Support," will be located at Donor Memorial Park, on the corner of 16th Avenue and Church Street. The flags will remain in the park during the month of July.

The opening ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday and the public is invited to attend. At the event, people waiting for transplants will share their stories.

The event and display are being organized by Tennessee Donor Services, a non-profit organization providing for the recovery and allocation of organs and tissue.
