This is my first posting. Anyway... My Dad's been on dialysis now for about 2 months and last week. after results came back from his cultures, he was diagnosed with MRSA. Just got out of the hospital after having a fever, no appetite, dehydrated, lithargic, and almost incoherent. Parimedics had to walk him to the car so Mom could drive him to dialysis. After dialysis, he went straight to the hospital for a 3 night stay. He's now on antibiotics. I went to the local health dept. web site and found out more about MRSA. I hope he can recover! Has anyone else here experienced MRSA? What can you tell me about it and what advice can you give me?

Welcome to our community. Your concern for your dad is really admirable. However, I don't know what MRSA is. Could you explain the initials. I hope someone can help you. We do have a Kidneygoogle search that you can use to find information quickly concerning kidneys. Please continue to post and let us know how your dad is doing now. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.

Welcome to the site. It is important to keep an eye on your dad and keep after the medical staff to use universal precautions every time they deal with him. MRSA is very hard to get rid of in the human body. It is very antibiotic resistant and sometimes doe snot go away. Iw ish you luck.

MRSA is a antibiotic-resistant virus that has mutated over time mostly in hospitals and medical facilities.
At the present time there is no cure for this virus, but anyone that contracts it can survive and recover as long as their immune system is not severely compromised.
Here, in Victoria BC, there have been temporary ward closures in the hospitals, due to sudden outbreaks of this virus, and most medical staff have the attitude that 'it's already in the community, so what can we do?'
It is related directly to the 'super-bug' outbreak that we have been hearing warnings about for years.
The existence of MRSA and similar viruses is because of the over-use of anti-biotics. The virus has evolved to survive, and in the process has gotten stronger and more flexible.
Washing one's hands often, is one of the recommended prevention techniques, both at home and in hospital, especially.

Wow! I'm so glad I posted. I already feel the support from all of you who responded. For those of you who gave me advise/education re: MRSA... Thank You! Going to my local Health Dept. web site opened my eyes to the seriousness of this antibiotic resistent diagnosis and see that diabetics, those on insilin and dialysis are suseptible to this disease. Keep your eyes open to univerasal precausions (decreasing the spread of the disease to others), wash hands and articles touched thoroughly and often! Don't want it to spread to anyone else who may have an open sore or touch and article & then touch eyes, nose, mouth and open wound, etc. Thanks for your support!
