Title: New From Ohio
Post by: sandlcandles on June 04, 2007, 05:29:58 AM
Hi. I have been on dialysis since the end of March. My husband is a perfect match for me because we had him tested about a year ago. Now that I am on dialysis they had him tested again and now they say he is still a perfect match but because of some blood transfusions i had in the hospital they can no longer give me his kidney.  Does anyone know any way around this so that I can still have his kidney. He is the only donor I have and I really dont want to get a fistula so I need to have a transplant in the next 2 months.

Leslie, Welcome to this wonderful site. I had a transplant too. My brother gave me one of his. In my case they wanted me on dialysis because they wanted me to REALLY want that kidney. I was on for a year till i got the transplant. My brother had to fight for them to do the transplant. We had a big round table meeting just to have them do anything. If they give you any trouble you may have to go else where. Sometimes it's good to have more than one hospital to go to. Don't let them play around it's your live and his.

Welcome to the site.   I am still jumping through hoops just to get listed for a tranplant.

We have a great area to discuss tranplants on this site:

 :waving; Hi Leslie,
Welcome to IHD!
My daughter's donor is from Ohio!
Ask if your transplant center does positive crossmatch transplants. If not, there are many that do.
There's lots of good info and support on this forum, glad you could join us!

Welcome. Plasmapherisis with a living donor is the way to accept a kidney when you have a high PRA. Your anitbody level probably went high because of receiving a blood transfusions. There is alot of info here, including posts by JillD. who had this procedure done. Mayo, Johns Hopkins, Carolina Med Center, Cedar Sinai and some who do this procedure. I am in the process at Carolina Medical Center. Have been accepted and now the donors are being evaluated. Google plasmapheresis for kidney transplant and you will find a lot of information. I contacted hospitals on my own after UNC Hospital put me on the list, but said they couldn't do anything more because of my antibodies. I don't take "no" for an answer, so I went to the internet.  You already know you have a donor--now you need a hospital that does the right procedure.   Glad you found us --it is a great community. :welcomesign;

Welcome to our caring and sharing community.  We have really become a family with all that means - people who care and who UNDERSTAND, a place to vent and rant when necessary, a place for information and even relaxation (chat room and game room).  Take advantage of all this site has to offer.  It was one of the best things that happened when I discovered I had renal failure.
