I am still pre-dialysis but getting close(about 13%function), and I am wondering about
getting a transplant evaluation. It would probably be at UCLA. I read Livecam's message
from 6/22/06 concerning the evaluation process at UCLA, and it mentioned "no
history of cancer". Do this mean that a cancer survivor such as myself has no
change for a transplant? My cancer was Renal Cell Carcinoma so that I had
my left kidney removed in Jan. 2000. I have been cancer free since then,
undergoing xrays and CT scans for 5 years after. I would appreciate any
information. Steve

I believe it depends on the transplant program but I know that our local one requires a person who had cancer to be 2yrs cancer free. I believe you can still continue with evaluation during this time.

I had my transplant done in Minneapolis and while I don't know the exact number of years you have to be cancer free, I believe you would more than qualify.

My husband has no kidney due to Renal Cell Carcinoma- (1 left in an accident years ago) the transplant program in Orlando said 5 years before he can go on the list- but I beleive you have to send them your particular pathology-then they decided from there. My husbands tumor was 11cm which is pretty large-it had not broke through the kidney wall however. Still, I have also heard it depends where you go- there are two other programs in my state, and the neph says they may say differently.So we are going to try them.

Another question on the same subject. What about skin cancer in the transplant
evaluation? I have Basel Cell Carcinoma and will have Moh's surgery on my nose
tomorrow. Would there be any transplant disqualification attached to that.
