Joe frequently gets sores/raw spots on his legs - anyone else?
-
No, but I believe that is common for diabetics. I get bruises. Big, black, ugly ones and most of the time I can't figure out when I did it.

I bruise if someone points at me.
Sara, diabetics are prone to that. Check to see if you can find any cause, like seams rubbing on them that can be prevented, and make very sure to use antibiotic cream on them. Getting a nasty infection from a tiny little sore is a fast way to lose a diabetic's limb!

Yeah that's why I stay on him. But his skin is so thin, and his legs swollen from fluid, so it's like any time he bumps into something it tears. It's so frustrating. On our trip 5/4-5/6 he had a draining dime sized sore on his leg, it was draining so much it would soak his sock in 3 hours (I know, gross). It's almost healed now, but still a little raw. He has 2 other small tears/sores that we had to take care of last night also.

Interesting...I've had no sores and I don't think I bruise any differently than I ever have. Thats just me talking but that is how it is here.

I've just read this thread. Timely. Yesterday mom was complaining of a 'rash' that was very sore in the crease of her upper thigh. I gave her first aid cream and told her I'd check it after her shower. Well, not to get too graphic, but it was not a rash. It was a very infected boil-type hard bump. It seems to be about an inch round. There was already a drainage point and as I pressed, the puss came out. She felt almost immediate relief. She said my sister (who also is diabetic) gets these sores on her legs. Mom said she had one in the past a while ago. I've tried to look up what causes them and have had no luck.

I get them on my arms mostly but sometimes on my belly around my belt line. It's a good thing I'm married because i would never get a date. ::)
