Facebook is a social utility that connects you with the people around you.
Facebook is made up of many networks, each based around a workplace, region, high school or college.

You can use Facebook to:

Share information with people you know.
See what's going on with your friends.
Look up people around you.

http://www.facebook.com/

It is such a cool way to find friends from the past and present.  You can email them, share funny pics, websites and jokes, share your favorite pictures.  It is a great way to keep in contact with everyone without having to spend hours on the phone.

It's fun to find people you haven't heard from or seen for a long time. Even people you have forgot about.  I like to look at my kids list of friends, it's interesting to see what they are doing with their lives.

I loving refer to it as "Facebook McTimeSuck" as I'm always checking it for updates, when I should be working.

I started a similar group to the one listed above, however it's more focused on Ontario's Trillium Foundation.

i just signed up on facebook yesterday and i haven't recieved ONE piece of junk mail yet, unlike myspace, which continues to send me several pieces of junk daily, even though i've stopped using it entirely. my daughter recruited me so she'd have someone to play scrabble with, online.  i had to be added to the vancouver network, since victoria is so small, i guess.
anybody wants to add me my name is wayne wilson on the vancouver network...

what name are you using on it, nina? you have to be specific, or be forever in limbo.

its pretty easy, once you play around with it a bit.

Well, now that i am really looking into it, it is all coming together, man, it sure does put someone's info "out there" for everyone to see though, lol,  Amanda, do you have a myspace?  i think that one is alot easier than this one. (but i am not going to give up on Facebook) ;)  I have Light Lizard and Tubes as my friends now  :yahoo; :yahoo;

i repeat, myspace gives your email address to advertisers, who inundate your inbox with mindless ads, endlessly. facebook allows you more control over notifications, and doesn't give your email address to anyone.

I thought you used email to find people on facebook....in which case, my email would be highlite36@yahoo.com.  Otherwise, I should be registered as "Dee Her"  Hope that works for you....

I was suckered into getting into MySpace from a friend, but I haven't been innundated with emails. I just get the stupid 21st century hooker wannabees in the friends request. But that has changed since changing privacy settings and so forth. If it wasn't for surgarfree on MySpace though, I wouldn't have found this group.

i've deactivated my account on facebook. its not easy, as most of you know, when you have a life-threatening condition, to communicate honestly, your feelings, your perceptions. i find that there are too many who are too quick to attack, like seagulls tear apart their own.
'healthy' people don't want to hear about illness, it can often cause them to react with anger and cynicism. i'm tired of that crap. thanks to the internet, one doesn't even have to leave their home to find a nest of raging assholes, it seems.
i've come to the conclusion that there is no way to relieve the isolation i feel and that i may as well embrace it, instead of trying to change it.

thank the cosmos for this site!

love to all.

i'm pretty sure you can, but i'm too lazy to do that.  really, i don't want to be on a site that has so much potential for misunderstandings and conflicts. i used to like message boards, but the more time i spend on them, the less i like them...and people...
i love my cat. and wife.

I never really could see the point of myspace, but I don't have that many contacts so that may be the problem. I have had it for a long time and I did blog there for awhile.
I use facebook everyday. It is so easy to post photo albums and add music and videos, even in messages. I like that people can write on my graffiti wall. I also like the news feed feature, it tells you which of your friends added something on their page.

Karol- Can you only view your profile if your on your friends list? All I see when I click your page is "Member Not Found/Page Not Found" so I then logged in, and it pulled up your page, but I see nothing.. no  "graffiti wall" or anything... I see nothing.

I see a picture you have of yourself on the left and some trees on the right, and then I see "Name: Karol Franks" "Network: Los Angeles, CA"

On the right I see "Send Message, Poke Karol!, View Friends, and Add to Friends"

And all of that info is in 1 small box at the top of the page, under it an advertisement and then blank page underneath of that.

 ???

i had myspace for awhile, too. just after i signed up i began receiving numerous pieces of 'junk' mail- advertising, on a daily basis.
i cancelled my account and am still receiving the junk.

Title: Re: Facebook

Yep you can set an account to only allow full access to friends .. that way if a random person is doing a search they will just see your name and not the whole profile. Useful for people who may be well known and want to retian some privacy (for example, I have seen a bunch of Aussie Rules footballers with facebook profiles but unless you're agreed to be their friend you can't see their friends or their profile or anything.. which is reasonable). I believe you can control the privacy to different levels too so that you can limit what friends see as well as general users or non-members etc.
