Title: Rest in peace Katherine "Kitkatz" Soto
Post by: okarol on May 31, 2022, 02:47:30 AM
It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I share the news of the death of our admin Katherine Soto, who passed away today. We send sincere sympathy and warm thoughts to her husband, daughters, mother, sisters and granddaughter, who she loved dearly. She was a good friend and an inspiration, having lived the last 22 years on dialysis. Katherine ran the IHateDialysis forum and helped admin the Facebook group. She joined the forum in 2006 and was a moderator, then admin. Here is her first introductory post http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=392.msg2228#msg2228. She was a writer, a poet, an artist and a caring, generous person who will be greatly missed. Here is one of her poems http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=3047.msg42874#msg42874

I don't have any information about arrangements being made, but will share when I do.

This post will be added to Tributes for Members Lost but for now wanted to let the members know.  :'(

Thank you.  I am Katherine's older sister, Christy, and had come to this forum to pass on the news about my sister.  This community meant so much to her and to her family.

Having this community saved my sister's life. She was so lost after her total kidney failure and the start of her dialysis.  After she found all of you, there were people like her who understood what she was going through.  Thank you from the depths of my heart for what you gave her. You gave her community and a purpose for her life.  I can't tell you how much all of you meant to her.  She was a member of this great community since March 2006 according to her profile.

My sister was warrior who never gave up in her fight for her life.  She was a mother to two wonderful children.  She taught school for all of her career even teaching full time during much of her time as a dialysis patient. She was an published author.  Into her retirement she wanted to continue to help so many people.  She had plans... so many plans.

If you would like to send cards, you can send PM me for my address, and I will pass them on to her family.  You can email me at creakinator@gmail.com and I will forward messages to her family.

Thank you again for being a great part of her life.

Christy

I am shocked and heartbroken to hear this news.  Kitkat was a true binding force in this group, and nothing here on this forum will ever be the same.  I followed the art and poetry she created, and I will treasure those.  I am so sorry for her family's loss.  She went through such difficult times with her health, and it angers me that life was not fair to her.  I know her family and friends were of great comfort to her, and I am glad that IHD could also offer her an open heart and open arms.

Thank you so much for sharing this news with us.  This was the last thing I expected to see when I opened my laptop.  With the world in turmoil, this is one more piece of bad news that will further darken our days.

Love to kitkat, always.

I can't begin to say how sorry I am for your loss.

She was so kind to me when I was a confused 15 year old starting back up on dialysis. We both had some other similar medical issues. She was such a warm and fantastic person. She will be greatly missed.

May her memory be a blessing.

One of her daughters  started a facebook post to gather memories and pictures that people have of Katherine before she memorializes the page.  I'm not a FB person, so I don't know how to post a link to a specific post.  Here is Katherine's FB feed https://www.facebook.com/ksotoemail and look for the post starting with "Katherine is partying up in the great beyond"

Thanks!
