Title: Well...we got Covid!
Post by: Xplantdad on November 30, 2020, 07:29:30 AM
I started with symptoms on Tuesday of last week...with a lightheaded (dizzy) feeling...and a slight headache. Then I lost my sense of taste and smell. Both my wife and daughter both ended up with the same symptoms and we were tested the day before Thanksgiving-and got our results back less than 20 hours later (thanks to Mayo).

It's been a rough couple of days, with body aches to the max- a feeling of dizziness and nausea, but no actual nausea. None of us have had fevers. We just feel really worn out!

Since Holly is both a heart transplant and a kidney transplant, they want us to keep an eye on:
1) Low blood pressures.
2) O2 levels-cannot go lower than 92
3) Obvious signs of issues

Mayo is calling daily to see how we are doing...and we're having daily 'tele-health' calls as well. The heart transplant docs from both Mayo and Loma Linda have said that the transplants that have come down with Covid have done very well.

Today is the first day since last Tuesday where I actually feel a bit better...but we'll see....

Be safe out there.....

Naturally, we've all been wondering about the outcomes in tx patients after they've contracted covid, so for selfish reasons, we will all be watching for news from you about Holly.

On a much more sympathetic note, I'm so sorry you and your family have been unwell.  I'd bet you've all been worried because you just never know with covid.  I hope you all recover quickly and completely.  I'm pleased to here that all of your doctors are keeping in constant touch with you!

Take care.

Sending warm wishes that everyone in the family recovers!

Thank you for sharing that tidbit from the tx team in regard to how tx patients fare with COVID. Best wishes to Holly to get through this in the best case scenario!

Pretty uneventful day for me. Holly and my wife are still very stuffed up. Oxygen levels are still at 96-97 percent-so that's okay.

It's amazing how fast the different symptoms come on and then go away just as fast.

We were told to drink copious amounts of fluids as well.

The wife and I have to quarantine for another ten days...Holly, since she's immune suppressed, has to quarantine for another 20 days. At least since we're all sick we don't have to quarantine from each other. Mayo said that all of us getting sick at the same time is the best case scenario...so we don't keep passing it back and forth.

Sorry to hear this, Xplantdad! Sending you lots of prayers and well-wishes. Hope all of you remain out of the hospital to recover at home. I noticed that some of the people with pulmonary sarcoidosis and lung transplants that have Covid are also being told to recover at home (unless of course their symptoms worsen).

Thank you Prime Timer and Kristina.

Our latest update:

We are all starting to turn the corner I think. My sense of smell and taste is slowing coming back. Body aches are mostly gone for me-still very tired.

Holly and Lynn have more consistent congestion than I do-though mine comes on quickly. Still very tired, though.

Had a video tele-medicine deal with Mayo's heart transplant doc in charge- a few minutes ago. They will delay all of Holly's heart/kidney studies until late January early February-as these are important-but not medically necessary at this juncture-and Mayo is filling up with Covid patients.

We asked if Holly will get the Covid immunization and Mayo still isn't 100 percent positive that doing that is the right thing to do at this point-so they are holding off on answering that for now. They aren't fully convinced yet that it's the best course of action at this juncture.

They say now that we've had Covid-we should have an immunity for at least 3 months (based on the data they have now).

The doc thinks that we could still feel lousy for at least another week...and he's glad that we have our own pulse oximeter to constantly check O2 saturation. They would have sent one to our house if we didn't have one. He also mentioned that the transplants who ARE having issues with COVID were already having other issues (i.e. with their transplants-other health issues). He's very happy with Holly's progress and our "awareness".

Finally-Mayo is sending a phlebotomist to our house to draw Holly's blood for the blood draws to check her immunosuppression levels - I wonder if they know the person has to get here really early...LOL?  :rofl;
