A year ago this hour I was in my hospital room in Madison recovering from my transplant surgery. The first three months were challenging but since then it has been easy sailing, My creatinine has been remarkably stable between .94 and 1.05. This month my hemoglobin was a nice 13. Today I celebrated at a socially distant picnic with my closest friends. My sisters wanted to have a family get-together but we will have to wait on that. COVID has restricted my life considerably since the YMCA has been closed. Someday things will get back to normal. I am so grateful I had the transplant and made it safely home before the virus hit. The kidney has worked beautifully and has spared me from needing dialysis during a pandemic. I have great friends and a wonderful family, so I feel blessed!

Oh, tigtink, this is one of the very best things I've read in all of 2020! I am so very thrilled for you, I really am.
Your creatinine is remarkable! The lowest mine has ever been is 1.09, and I think that was a fluke. So, well done, you!
How often do you have labs? With the pandemic, are you going to go to Madison any time soon for a check up? I am scheduled to have my annual check up in early Dec, but that appointment was made a year ago, so I don't know what is going to happen.
Anyway, my best wishes go to you along with my heartiest congratulations! Oh, this just makes me so happy!! :clap; :yahoo; :bandance; :flower; :cheer: :thumbup;

Hi MooseMom. I have labs done once a month. I haven't been back to Madison since December. They are fine with me doing video appointments. I have one next week. I encourage you to contact them and see if they can change your appointment to a virtual or phone appointment. They told me they are doing as much as they can virtually, even post-op appointments. No need to travel and go to a hospital if you have no big issues.

Glad to hear things are going good. Its nice to get past that initial post transplant period into the land of monthly lab results and not too much worry. Congratulations on the great creatinine.

Exactly. I've been thinking along those lines and will be doing just that, particularly since everyone keeps saying that the pandemic is just going to get worse as the fall/winter proceeds. My appt. isn't until Dec, so this is something I'll address in about a month's time. Since I am not a "new" patient, I'm sure they'll be fine with a telephone call.

Great news ! Hopefully it continues like that and I wish you all the best ! The first year is - so I have heard and experienced myself - always the hardest and then "things" get better. Take great care and best wishes from Kristina. :grouphug;
