Title: Hi. Darren from Ireland here
Post by: Darren Cawley on June 10, 2020, 01:28:24 PM
Hi All,

Darren, 42, from Ireland.

Kidney failure for over 22 years now (since 1998) and currently doing terrific with a successful transplant.

I did however spend initially, 2 years on dialysis, had and lost a transplant within 2 years, then spent the next 9 years in a row on haemodialysis in the West of Ireland. Most of my 20's and early 30's.

Hate might be too strong a word but I certainly didn't enjoy it!

I learnt loads about myself and thanks to kidney failure I believe I am now a strong, resilient person with the coping skills to deal, not just with kidney issues, but with anything life throws at me.

I speak at events from business/pharma to colleges/schools talking on what I've learnt from adversity. This is certainly something I have learnt to love doing. I feel helping others creates a sense of gratitude that I can indeed be a useful, productive person even after all the challenges of kidney disease. Dialysis is tough but it can be a great teacher!

I love sport and have represented Ireland several times at the Transplant & Dialysis Games. I am married with two young children. I love reading, mainly non-fiction and I believe a positive attitude is vital in dealing with the things we as a group must endure.

Best wishes to all

Darren
