Well, my kidneys started to decrease (I WAS 41 THEN) a couple years ago...30% to 23% to 15% to 9% to 5% over 18 months...
In January, they wanted me to start dialysis, but I was training for a strongman contest and won my senior class...I was 285 lb and barely 5'10" when I won and felt run down the weeks after the contest and my kidneys dropped from 23% to 9% during that 3 month window...I was a competitive bodybuilder and my home state champion 3 years in a row and now I have a neck catheter in and get dialysis twice a week...my kidneys work mostly, just don't pull off excess water and phosphorus but my potassium levels are low most of the time...I still train hard and I am a role model for anyone that knows me...I tell everyone, QUESTION EVERYTHING THOSE DOCTORS TELL YOU!!!! STAY ACTIVE AND MOVE!!!! I go in for dialysis and see how tired and ran down people are and I will never be that person...when I was leaving a couple days ago, the doctor asked me if I was still working out, and I said I train regularly, just less volume and nothing crazy...said I was a huge motivation...made my day...I am planning on a kidney transplant late January right now and I take pride in keeping a good attitude and have the drive to make things happen everyday...stay strong everyone!!!!

Thank you for your story. Please keep updating your story. I’m your follower because I admire you with such positive attitude and you are very tough. Before my dialysis and kidney transplant 19 years ago, I was very weak, panic, and I don’t have good information and knowledge about kidney disease, dialysis, and transplant then. At age 41, I had kidney transplant. I went school for my second career in medical field. Now I’m 59 and powered with information and knowledge. I love sports and exercises. Exercises helps me deal with the anxiety and depression caused by meds and kidney disease.

Exercise is one of the best things you can do to keep your body in shape, toned to function well.
Hemo treatments can be very tiring, moreso if the amount of flullid taken off is large. For me, 3 kilos seems to be my limit. At 3 or more my calves will cramp, either beginning while still in the chair, usually always later when I sleep. When that happens I HAVE TO get on my feet and walk to break the cramps before I can return to sleep. And the cramp also often returns until I raise my fluid levels just a little bit.
I try hard to avoid much water weight gains, keeping as dry as I can without dehydrating. I do O.K.
A Tx would be wonderful, however in my case I have too many other med issues that make it unlikely. But as long as I keep watching my diet and fluids I should be fine.
Keep up with your regular regimen and you should do well.
